  1. Will write more, but so far as I see most of the players don't use the right hook size. Try to use #10/0 for vampire.

  2. First cast with a 10/0 - 82lb vamp. And a 76lber 3rd cast. Regular gar spot both.

  3. So, last night myself as well as 4 other players made a private room and put in some legwork on trying to figure out the Black Vampire Gar in Louisiana. This was with someone whom had already caught one. We tried his tactics first and had no luck. So we went to a spot that me and Violent Vole had tried a few days prior. I had spotted some vampire gar there swimming. We managed over about an 8 hour real time period(5-6 in game nights) 4 Vampires for me, and 3 for Bucky. Now before I get to the tactics used to catch them, I'm going to preface this by saying it's an EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING experience to sit there and watch them swim up to your bait and "sniff" it then swim off over and over and over and....OVER again. For every 100 "sniffs" you may get 1 bite. You'll see them constantly, but they just won't bite. Note that the 2 gar in the picture I'm including were "minnow sniffers" and didn't bite. If this was the intended designed behavior, then there is obviously NO WAY whatsoever that you would be able to catch the 90-100 needed for the reward during the event time period. I'm still giving the benefit of a doubt that they're bugged though, as them "nosing" on your bait and swimming off just doesn't seem like proper behavior. Now on to the tactics. Swampy Open Space peg, all the way to the far right next to the rock and 2 trees. Past the line of 4 trees at the "catfish hole". 30in(76cm) leader, #8/0 hook, Rotten Minnows, 24-33ft(7-10m) out. Cast towards the middle right in between the two trees, but into open water not into the grass as you will get snagged. 27ft(8m) seems to be the sweet spot. After casting, wait until the tension has left your line and twitch your float once using L2 then wait. As I stated in the previous post. Wait just a little bit and if they're going to swim out and show interest it will more than likely be within a short period of time. If not, reel in and re-cast. I generally wait no longer than 10-15 minutes in game before re-casting, twitching using L2 once or twice in that time period if there are no signs of life. Now, the bite will come after they "nose/sniff" your bait. They can do this for up to 10 seconds or so. Then one of two things will happen...they will stick their tail out of the water and "moon" you then swim off, or they will obilterate your bait with an enormous bite. I tried to get a video of one shooting straight up out of the water last night nose first like a torpedo, but it didn't come out. They do not nibble whatsoever like the other Gar, just ONE BIG BITE! Something as a side note...this seems to work better fishing as a group as more casts to the area seem to induce more activity and more bites. It also helps save your sanity fishing for broken fish with someone to talk to lol. I hope this helps, as it took me 35+ hours of REAL time to figure this out. Good luck guys and TIGHT LINES! ******VERY IMPORTANT EDIT!!!******* Edit: Don't start fishing there until after 9:00pm. Otherwise, channel catfish will steal your baitcoin baits! Best times I've noticed so far are from 10pm-11pm, and 1am-3am.

  4. When you’re ready to upgrade equipment, it might pay to shop around while in the field. Example: Two identical items shown may be purchased for a cheaper amount “On Location” vs. “At Home.” That’s’ a $6030 savings. Obviously, travel expenses, licenses, etc. would factor in but if planned, we might be able to conserve a few bucks when money and/or bait coins are tight. Especially if members see a cheap deal “on location” regarding the higher end equipment and post it here, it might benefit the community. Some items may be included with specific DLC’s as well so it’s wise to read those descriptions closely. Just thinking out loud and thought I’d put this here. EDIT: My apologies, I meant to identify the locations. The cheaper of the two was found in the Alaska store. The other in the home store.

  6. Hello Everyone, Some of you who have played this fishing game in the past might have known that they removed the VR feature due to a new GUI. Many of us have been asking for it back, but unless numbers show interest they will not do this. If you are interested in seeing VR return (If you seen it on PC, which was amazing) please vote on the below site; PSVR sales are quite high. http://steamcommunity.com/app/380600/discussions/0/1480982338956145383/

  7. Don't mind challenges being tough and I realise the devs have to make money, but I'm not comfortable with success being tied to cash payments or being of a sufficiently high enough level to be able to purchase the right equipment. Yeah I know that you have to be high enough to get to Neherrin to have any chance, but this hook size business has wound me up. I'm level 30 and have fished a three day and a six day trip in the Everglades. In that time I have fished pretty much a full night for each day of those trips. I had done six nights before I found out that upping my catch rate significantly was only going to happen if I used a size of hook I can't buy and even if I was, one that the local shop doesn't stock (I'm assuming this based on the fact they don't stock the #7/0).

  10. So after some extensive testing last night I've come to a few conclusions. I fished 8 in game nights. I tried #10/0 hook, regular baits, and found a new Vampire spot with confirmed catches and sightings(I'll post a pic). From my experiences last night, after switching to a #10/0 as opposed to #8/0 I saw no difference in bite ratios after changing. I caught 4 more in that time period. There were no differences in sightings or "noses/sniffing". If anything, I saw a few less fish which might be attributed to the smaller vamps not being interested in the larger hook? Tonight I may try a #9/0 being in between to see what effect that has. I also tried different regular "Gar Yummies". I tried Shiners, Large Cutbait, Large Minnows, and Crawfish. As soon as I switched to these baits, sightings became non-existant. 4 in game hours and only 1 sighting while using Shiners. The fish came out and "sniffed" the shiner and swam away. I was hoping that maybe it being a live swimming bait that it may enduce a strike faster than the dead baits. However, that is not the case. The RNG for spawn rates and bite rates seem to be GREATLY reduced when not using the Halloween event baits. I also tried different hook sizes for the different Halloween baits, which cofirms, to me at least, my assumptions. #6/0 hook for pig's eye an ogres, #8/0 hook for mice and albinos, #10/0 hook for dead minnows and Vampires. All baits can be used for all of the event fish, but hook size is definitely important. Dead minnow seems to have the best results across the board for me. I've caught ALL of my fish on them, on all 3 of the hook sizes. The new location is next to the boat on the left hand side of the Upside Down peg. I saw two caught there and A LOT of sightings and bites. The catches were on #10/0 hook 21inch leader and Rotten Minnows. The red circle is the area to fish and the green arrows are where I saw the fish spawn from. I still prefer the Swampy Open Space location because they're much easier to see up close. I'll also include a pic of my PB Vampire Gar which is currently #2 on the leaderboards. https://imgur.com/a/Kk74n https://imgur.com/a/0cAC4

  13. We don't have the ghost pike on the PS4, but assuming the behavior is similar to the Gar I'll give my findings. 1. Albino Gar and Ogre Gar nibble then strike whether visible or not. Vampire Gar are visible when present. They don't nibble at all, but will "nose/sniff" your bait then 1 BIG solid strike. 2. Absolutely agreed, recast after no sighting or bites every 5-15 in game minutes(1-3 realtime minutes). I believe spawning is cast dependent from what I have experienced personally and have read on steam forums. One reason why I suggest fishing in a group instead of a private room. MANY more sightings, spawns, and bites. 3. Multiple fish spawn at a time, as given by the picture of the Vampire Gar in LA. I've seen up to 3 at once. Had double ups with the Albino Gar as well on several occasions fishing from the same spot. So multiple spawns are very possible, actually likely. 4. Depth has been critical on all species and locations. For the Vampires in LA, 30in depth was important. Albinos, 35in at one spot, 24in at another. Ogre was at 20 inches. Hook size has been very important as well. #8/0 has worked for both the Vampire, and Albinos. #6/0 for the Ogre. However, @Killerwhale suggested #10/0 for the Vampires. So my hypothesis is that the hooks on the "Larger" end, as specified in the tips to be used for the event Gar's large snout, go in ascending order from smallest to largest for the smallest to largest Gar. #6/0 Ogre, #8/0 Albino, #10/0 Vampire. 5. I have only used rotten minnows the entire event. They were the most expensive baitcoin purchasable baits, and from what I've seen, definitely get bites. From what I've heard from players of past years events, the more expensive baitcoin baits increase RNG. I will give some of the other regular baits a try now since I know some hotspots and report back with results. Given that my point 3, that I have seen multiple fish spawn simultaneously, and that there are increases in sightings and bites with multiple people fishing together. I HIGHLY suggest fishing as a group. It also helps pass the time to chat. All of these are just my findings and may or may not work for you, but so far these tactics worked for me and all of my other fishing buddies. As a side note, it's probably coincidental, but as a group we noticed many more bites when in the chat window, and frequently had to close out chat quickly to hook a fish. Probably nothing, but it's crazy how many times it happened.

  14. Thanks, guessing that ups our bite rate for a lot of us since a good bit of the lightning strike ones caught haven't been on #10/0 hooks (what's been posted anyhow); caught mine on an #8/0. Though a lot of us have tried #10/0 at each posted* hotspot (Down South peg, reg trophy hole, far right side at lily flowers; Upside Down peg, straight between the long lilypads; Open Swamp, in front of the 4 newly found, far ride hole.) with each bait even non event baits & at different depths, still just feels like a crap shoot to if you get one let alone 100. But any tips or pointers you suggest will be tested most definitely. So certainly look forward to whatever the next post includes. I'll make all the rounds again using #10/0 with what I have left, which isn't but 5 eyes and a few Baitcoins I planned on saving since probably impossible to reach 100 especially since event is so far along. Thanks again though, looking forward to next tip.

  16. +Comfirm this , 34 kg Vamp on exact settings, would say it is catchable on large minnows aswel, + the ghost, it is crucial to use the 76 cm depth

  17. I wonder if all of the event fish behave in the same way. The highly visible Ghost Pike provides some interesting information about how the fish spawning works. Fishing in the old Muskie spot in Michigan and casting a float into 'Muskie Corner', we were able to get about 4 per hour during peak time new moon. The following patterns were observed by us. 1. Even though no pike had visually spawned, the float did it's usual moving around as though a fish was present. 2. If no fish had spawned after 1 minute of the cast, it was best to recast, we tried leaving it for around 30 minutes with no success. 3. Only one fish spawned at a time, at no time was there more than one visible. 4. Depth was critical 24 inches in high pressure (+/-2). 5. Bait shiner, large minnows or rotten minnows, all worked the same. Given point 3, If you want to increase your chances, fish in a private room, not ideal for a 'fun' event.

  18. I noticed this as well. Specifically, it changed when viewing the catch with (X) key, then returning to the normal screen which then placed the "time of day" out of view. Will try and reproduce with a screen shot should it happen again.

  19. This is where and how I've caught all 3 Halloween Gar's. I first started with the Green Ogre Gar and realized you needed to catch 30 so I did hoping that was it for the challenge when it said I needed 100 I kinda got deflated because it does take some time to catch these fish (sometimes) unfortunately. I've never been able to catch them back to back, what I mean is with some of the normal fish you can catch one then cast out again and catch another one or within a short period of time catch another one for me that's never happened. What I do is, fast forward to 9pm when I get to whatever area I'm fishing at cast out a few times if I don't get anything within 30 minutes (in game time so it would be 9:30pm for example) I'll fast forward to 10pm and so on. Now if you don't have coins or don't wanna buy coins you'll have to wait that first fast forward out then after that if you stay between 9pm - 4am you'll be able to fast forward for free. Here's how and where I caught the 3: Green Ogre Gar - North Carolina Neherrin River - Fishing Spots: Woody Enchantment and Rubble of Old Times (Caught 2 at Great Parking Job) -- I used Pigs Eye and Rotten Minnow's, #4/0 Hook, 20 Inch Line Leader. From the Woody Enchantment spot I would stand more to the left then right in front of the 2 wood pieces that are sticking out of the water, I would try and place my bait ( 60-75 Feet ) where it would float across the middle of that or just behind it and let it just go until it gets all the way to the far right. Sometimes I'd cast in the middle and let it float or to the right of the wood and let it float over all 3 ways I have caught the Green Ogre Gar. From the Rubble of Old Times, you can cast past the wood right in the middle I liked to stay in the 70-80 Feet range let it float over to the left once it got a few feet past the 2 wood pieces I would reel in and try again but a lot of times there was a bite so before you just rip on it to reel in see if there is something biting it first. The other area that I caught some at was where you normally get the Longenose Gar in that long weeded area to the right of where the wood pieces are (Still in Rubble of Old Times) I would go on the other side and just cast out 20 Feet right in front of the weeds give my line about 35-40 Feet let it float on down once it ran out of line I would reel in and try again. 2 other areas that haven't been successful but I did catch some right in front of the weeded area in Rubble of Old Times across the way is another weeded area I'd cast to the right in front of that and let it float down but I believe I only got 2 there. The last spot was Great Parking Job basically did it the same way if I was fishing for Flathead Catfish stand to the far left and cast towards the rocks or stand on the right side with the jeep/truck on your left and the weed patch to your right cast right in the middle of that. Again all were caught on Pigs Eye and Rotten Minnow's, #4/0 Hook, 20 Inch Line Leader. I've spent hours catching Green Ogre Gar and have 30 of them. Black Vampire Gar - Louisiana Quanchkin Lake - Fishing Spot: Down South -- I used Pigs Eye, #7/0 Hook, 20 Inch Line Leader. Fish it like if you were going to fish for an Alligator Gar. Where I was standing is to the far left of where you spawn at if you run into the bushes there's an area where you can see the Lake I was just casting to the right of the tree out there. A few people were saying where were they and after a few cast I caught one. Took maybe 30 Minutes real time. Albino Ghost Gar - Florida Everglades - Fishing Spot: Lily Pad Channel -- with the tips from X-xH3aDxS4o7x-X (Thank you by the way it was my first try even going for the Albino Ghost Gar) I was able to catch one on my first night there. I used Pigs Eye, #7/0 Hook, 35 Inch Line Leader. I put the bait right in front of the Lily Pads / Weeds just like in his picture where he circled in red. I haven't spent but maybe 30 real time minutes on this and caught 1. Again I usually don't let the time go past the 30 minutes, I know you can catch one at whatever like 9:45pm but I personally have had more success doing it the way I have been, where I don't just sit there and fish for hours in game time if I don't get a bite specially since its free (unless it's your first fast forward, then its 1 coin or wait it out) I would just skip to the next hour cast a few times nothing skip again, then if I caught one I would always skip ahead an hour because I've personally never have caught any of them back to back or in the same hour. Hope this helps or backs up what a few others like X-xH3aDxS4o7x-X have pointed out. By far the easiest of the 3 I think is Green Ogre Gar because I believe there is more spots to catch it, I haven't put a huge amount of time on the Black Vampire Gar or Albino Ghost Gar but was able to catch both pretty fast so I know it can be frustrating but hopefully you'll be able to at least get 1 of each which was what my goal was once I seen you need 100 of them to complete the challenge which I personally do not see how that's possible even for the Green Ogre Gar.

  21. X-xH3aDxS4o7x-X PS4 10/29/17 4. I just experienced something REALLY crappy. I was twitching my float like I normally do to induce bites and 5 different times it said "Strike too early"....Not "Bait eaten or lost", but I lost my rotten minnows anyway. That's 5x Baitcoins gone for nothing. Is there any way I can be compensated for this? Edit: Make that 6 baitcoins. Just lost my bait after I recieved the message "Bait pulled away fish is gone". I shouldn't be losing my baits to these messages...only to "Bait eaten or lost". 2nd edit: Wow! Even weirder all players just disappeared on my screen yet continue to talk in chat... Make that 7 baitcoins. Just lost another to strike too early.......
