Hey Anglers,
A new destination in Fishing Planet is on the horizon, and it's time to give you a glimpse of what’s coming your way. When we launched our first ocean location—Kaiji No Ri in Japan—we introduced you to the vastness of the open ocean. Even then, we knew it was just the beginning of true big game fishing. Now, we’re taking things to the next level with Noomaa Kuda Atholhu, Maldives. This island paradise will be perfect for Anglers who dare to think beyond the shoreline.
Shaped By The Sea
The geography of the Maldives is defined by two long, parallel chains of atolls, known as ridges, stretching north to south across the Indian Ocean. Noomaa Kuda Atholhu lies south of the eastern ridges, surrounded by scattered smaller atolls. Deeper open ocean waters lie to the west of the atoll, while the calmer, so-called Inner Sea is to the east.
Atolls are ring-shaped coral reefs that form around lagoons, built over time as volcanic islands sink and coral grows upward. Over millions of years, marine life and waves break down this coral into the iconic soft white sands that give the Maldives their clear, turquoise waters.
A Living Paradise
This location will be just as vast as our Japan map, spanning 20x20 km—an impressive 400 square kilometers. It features over 55 atolls, small islands and ocean spits, with all of them fully explorable except for one, and why this one is so special you will be able to find out later when the map is released. You’ll be able to step off your boat, walk across the islands, and cast your line from the shore for a truly immersive experience.
When creating this location, we put extra care into crafting the water to capture the true essence of the Maldivian seas. It’s crystal clear and teeming with life—you can see colorful reef fish, rays and small sharks swimming close to shore, and even spot sea turtles.
On the beach, cheeky little crabs lounge in the sun and dash off in a hurry the moment you get too close, adding a bit of lively mischief to the scene. The Maldivian islands are truly alive with vibrant marine life.
Dynamic Weather and Ocean Clouds
We also introduced something new—special ocean clouds. Unlike those over freshwater, ocean clouds are often larger, taller, and more dramatic, fueled by constant heat and moisture. We’ve also added sunny, cloudless weather and a subtle heat haze effect to enhance the sensation of hot, shimmering air. To bring this to life, we developed custom technology that makes ocean skies in the game feel more real and immersive than ever before. Here’s a small preview of how the sun moves across the sky, changing the lighting and the appearance of clouds throughout the day.
Maahuraa Lagoon
The location will feature two starting points for your fishing adventure - Maahuraa Lagoon and Kuda Veli. The main one is the atoll with Maahuraa Lagoon, where anglers can stay at a comfortable resort to unwind after a day on the water. It also serves as the hub where all yachts and boats arrive from the ocean.
We’ve received questions from players about ocean boats and whether they’ll be usable in the new location. Rest assured — your Scutum and Volans fishing yachts are built for the ocean and will be fully compatible. For your convenience, a rental boat will also be available at the location for those who haven’t added an ocean yacht to their collection yet.
If you're looking to upgrade and go high-tech, there’s also something special coming your way: the brand-new Chamaeleon Catamaran. This sleek vessel can accommodate up to 5 players, offers significantly more fish storage, and is built to handle the truly massive ocean giants you’ll encounter — because the fish at this location are going to be bigger than ever. Stay tuned — we’ll reveal more about the fish in the next DevDiary, which is already in the works!
All players aboard the catamaran will have their own adjustable rod holders and top-tier displays, so everyone can stay fully tuned in to the action on the water at all times. The yacht’s name is no coincidence — it hints at one of its coolest features: the ability to change the boat’s color! You’ll get a full chain of engaging missions to unlock custom color options and ride the waves in your own unique style.
Kuda Veli
Another starting point on the map, Kuda Veli, is a small distant atoll, home to a fishing settlement nestled a few kilometers southwest of the main atoll. The locals here have a strong connection to the ocean and stick to their fishing craft, passing it down through generations. While most fishermen head for the open ocean the lagoon at the center of the atoll is worth a cast.
The Maldives, scattered like gems across the Indian Ocean, offers some of the most thrilling fishing adventures on the planet. With crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life, it’s a dream destination for anglers seeking both stunning beauty and serious challenges. What you’ve seen in this DevDiary is just a glimpse of what’s to come. Get ready to explore a variety of islands and atolls—some with their own unique feel, hidden easter eggs, and surprises waiting to be uncovered. Stay tuned for the next DevDiaries—new fish, fresh gear, and unforgettable adventures are just over the horizon!
Tight lines, and see you in the next DevDiary!

Welcome to the Dnipro River, Ukraine, a new Level 46 location on Fishing Planet, and a place near and dear to the hearts of the game's developers!
32 fish species, including well-known favorites such as Carp, Northern Pike, European Perch, Zander, Wels Catfish, Grass Carp, Silver Carp, and the iconic Beluga. And new to the game, White-Eye Bream, Common Nase, Sterlet, European Weatherfish, Chinese Sleeper, rare and valuable Black Sea Roach and locals’ favorite Azov Shad.
Freshwater trolling is finally here and it is available at all the locations in the game! Set out on the brand-new Dnipro motorboat, or give trolling a try with the rental boat available right at Dnipro River. Troll
for Wels Catfish, Northern Pike and Zander and see how these mighty predators love the brand new Twerky Runner lures! An interesting fact about how Ukrainian anglers fish for Wels Catfish is that it is caught in these areas by trolling at night, while in other countries it is usually caught from the shore.
Grab the Dnipro Delta Pack and set off in the Dnipro Motorboat, complete with two rod holders for trolling. Get two durable casting and spinning setups, a full range of tackles and lures, and a stylish outfit adorned with traditional designs. Enjoy a 30-day fishing trip on the Dnipro River, surrounded by serene water lilies and willows, with license and Premium account covered!
Discover new baits that are favorites among Ukrainian anglers, including Salo, Mamaliga, and Corn Sticks. And don’t miss the irresistible new groundbaits—featuring flavors like gingerbread and baked milk—that will have the fish biting and, who knows, maybe even make your mouth water too! We’ve left some surprises at the location to make everyone feel welcome—keep an eye out for them!
New lures, like Twerky Runners, Cicadas, Freaky Walkers, Bionic Slugs and Thorn Jig Heads, including a barbless one will be a pleasure to use for the local predators.
As in every new location, you get plenty of new missions and achievements, 4 new competitions and even two Monster missions! The Sturgeon Leviathan returns, alongside a brand-new threat, the Thorn-Ripper, waiting to be defeated.
Please, note some updates on other locations: European Weatherfish was also added to Lesni Villa, Check Republic, and another addition to this update, driven by player requests, will be the ability to take Beluga at the Dnipro River. Similarly, we’ve made this option available for European Eel at the Tiber River, Ghent-Terneuzen Canal, and Sander Baggersee Lake. Since these species are endangered in real life, we’ve made them available to take in the game, ensuring no harm to the planet while still offering players the chance to experience the thrill of keeping them virtually. Be aware that this option is available for anglers with Advanced Licenses.
Go ahead and start exploring the new map, or bear with us for the second part, which is equally important for players. We've resolved a number of issues, including the much-anticipated fix for the bass boat shaking bug, when the screen was shaking after hitting an object when driving a bass boat. Additionally, in response to feedback from players with special hearing needs, we've adjusted the Hell Bell sound, lowering its frequency to ensure that everyone can hear it clearly and comfortably.
Another exciting new feature is the redesigned UI for the Competitions rules section. Players will now be able to easily see the equipment, lures, or baits required for each competition, and if they are already equipped in the inventory, a green check will appear next to them. This feature is just the first iteration and will be refined in future updates, but we hope this small change will enhance the player experience by reducing confusion and making it easier to prepare for competitions.
One particularly amusing issue that has now been addressed involved extending the field for the credits balance. This adjustment became necessary because one of our players achieved the maximum possible amount of in-game currency! What an incredible milestone—congratulations on this remarkable achievement! The field has now been expanded to accommodate even higher balances. Way to go!

Dear Anglers,
This year has been an extraordinary one for us, as we turned two of our long-standing dreams into reality. The Ocean Update, an idea we envisioned from the very beginning, introduced the vast open seas and the Fishing Together feature, allowing friends to fish side by side on the same boat. Additionally, we finally brought the Dnipro River—our home location—to life, a cherished project that had been long overdue.
Over the past year, so much has happened in Fishing Planet:
The Club Leagues Season, which, despite its challenges, still brought many players together.
11 thrilling tournaments and thousands of competitions.
A brand-new Halloween Event that was both challenging and exciting.
10 major bug-fix patches across 7 platforms, improving the game experience.
Saltwater and freshwater trolling were introduced to the game.
Hundreds of new items, from saltwater yachts to a variety of new tackle, outfits, event items and rewards.
Someone joked that "Fishing Planet was cooking this year," and they weren’t wrong—but what we want you to know is that this was just the appetizer! There’s so much more in store for next year, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
We are deeply grateful for your support and feedback, which drives us to keep improving and growing. While some features take longer to implement and not everything may be possible immediately, we want you to know that we are always listening and doing our best to enhance the game for you.
As we wrap up this year, we wish you and your loved ones a joyful and peaceful holiday season. May your Christmas be filled with warmth and happiness, and may the New Year bring you success, good health, and, of course, plenty of unique catches!
Thank you for being part of our amazing community. Here’s to an even more exciting 2025, together!
Tight lines and yours faithfully,
The Fishing Planet Team -

Don’t miss your chance to get the Christmas Giant’s Pack, packed with all the gear and licenses you’ll need for the ultimate fishing adventure.
Good luck, and may the biggest catch be yours! Merry Fishmas!
Steam EpicGameStore American PSN Store European PSN Store Xbox -
Hey Anglers,
We’re here to announce that the Christmas Giant’s Tour is coming next week, with registration starting on December 23rd and the Final on December 29th!
First, we want to address the timing. We know Christmas week is family time, and holding a tournament then isn’t ideal. Unfortunately, due to the release of the new map, there was no other option. Canceling the tournament wasn’t something we wanted, as we know how important it is to many of you. We truly appreciate your understanding.
Now, let’s talk about the recent changes to competitions and tournaments.
Over the past few months, we’ve introduced updates to the weather mechanics, significantly impacting how competitions work. In the past, knowing all the best fishing spots in a competition would almost guarantee success. However, with these updates, weather patterns and fish migration now play a much larger role. This means that familiar spots might perform differently depending on the conditions.
When these changes were implemented, we didn’t immediately communicate them to the community. Competitions have always been designed as an aspect of the game where players discover and refine strategies through personal exploration. However, we’ve since realized that many players perceive these updates as a malfunction or unintended issue. To clear up any confusion: these adjustments were intentional and aimed at introducing diversity and keeping the experience fresh.
The good news is that you can still learn and adapt! Understanding how fish migrate under different weather conditions adds an exciting new layer of strategy to the game. We believe this adjustment creates an opportunity for players who’ve mastered the game to engage with new challenges, fostering continuous exploration and rewarding effort in novel ways.
We hope this evolution in gameplay keeps your fishing adventures intriguing and offers new milestones to achieve. Keep honing your skills and embracing the thrill of discovery—it’s all part of the journey.

And new to the game, White-Eye Bream, Common Nase, Sterlet, European Weatherfish, Chinese Sleeper, rare and valuable Black Sea Roach and locals’ favorite Azov Shad.Freshwater trolling is finally here and it is available at all the locations in the game!
Please, note some updates on other locations: European Weatherfish was also added to Lesni Villa, Czech Republic, and another addition to this update, driven by player requests, will be the ability to take Beluga at the Dnipro River.
Way to go!
Here is what else has been included in the bug fix patch:

Ho Ho Ho Anglers,
Cast your cheer—may the fish be biting all through the year!
For everyone who’s been asking, “When?”—the wait is over! Christmas has officially landed on our Planet, and it’s here to stay for almost three festive weeks. This year, you can dive into the Christmas Holiday Event, the Krampus Hunt Event, or double down and take on both!
The Christmas event starts on December 19th 3 PM UTC and will last until January 6th 10 AM UTC.
Christmas Holiday Event
Oh man! Santa’s sleigh’s in trouble again! A snowstorm wrecked his ride somewhere over Canada—luckily, Santa’s fine, but his reindeer are MIA and presents are scattered all over the globe!
Join in to save Christmas—find the lost presents, track down the mythical Crystal Burbot, and complete holiday challenges! Don’t forget to search for those Present boxes on every waterway and grab some Fireworks for the holidays!
Head over to White Moose Lake, recover Santa’s gift bag, and get those presents back in time for Christmas! Santa’s counting on you, and he’s running out of time!
To help Santa you need to complete Fishmas missions
Catch a required amount of Antlered Salmon to harness them in Santa’s sleigh instead of his runaway reindeer. Keep in mind that Antlered Salmon bite best when someone launches fireworks.
Explore the waterways by boat and help Santa fill his bag with lost gifts! Once you arrive at waterways, find Santa's bag on the pier to get started with the task of collecting boxes with presents.
You’ll find Green boxes on Emerald Lake, Blue boxes on Falcon Lake, White boxes on Tiber River, and Red boxes on White Moose Lake.
Catch Decorator Fish to find lost decorations and deck the tree! The more fireworks you set off, the higher your chance of catching these festive fish.
And don't forget about the snow fights! Hit a certain number of players with Snowballs to earn a special achievement.
Interact with the Snow Piles to get some snow for the fight. Ready, set, aim—and dive into the game!
Complete Christmas Achievements and Missions and get an exclusive Snowman rod stand and delightful Santa-themed lure box. That Snowman is a perfect fishing buddy for an introvert – you will never feel lonely when fishing with this guy, but no one will keep talking when you just want to fish in silence
Summon Crystal Burbot!Complete all missions and discover what’s lurking in the waters of White Moose! Join the festive adventure and reel in the legendary Crystal Burbot, the majestic Antlered Salmon, and the playful Furry Trout, all while enjoying fireworks and holiday cheer.
Have fun catching these magical Christmas fish, while the fireworks are blasting, and complete the Myth Buster and Deer Hunter challenges to get unique holiday rewards.
You can also try to complete the Fishy Racing challenge and get Elven Kayak as a prize!
Krampus Hunt Missions
Uh-oh! Now we've got another misfortune on our hands! The mischievous elderly Krampus fish have stolen Santa's glasses, beard, and hat and are causing mayhem in the nearby waters. Our Brave Angler will have to track down these troublesome fish, capture them, and return Santa's stolen items.
To catch them, you'll need to question their accomplices—fish who, for some reason, decided to tag along and cause chaos. Be wary though—these fish have a knack for lying, so you’ll need to catch a fair number of them to get the truth. Get your rods ready, it’s time for some fishing justice!
And don’t forget to keep an eye for the Christmas Socks with some treats for you.
If you take a couple of Ginger Cookies and infuse them with a bit of holiday magic, you'll create the perfect bait! These Christmas-themed treats have been transformed into a powerful fishing tool. Use our special X-Mas Pastry baits for a better catch, offering something for every angler's taste.
These amazing Christmas sweets will help you catch Krampus Fish: Unlucky Krampus Tarpon, Clumsy Krampus Eel, Crumbling Krampus Payara.
You can track down the thieves by following their minions, who can be lured using special bait treats, sweet pastry groundbait, and magical jukeboxes. These unique baits will attract the mischievous accomplices, making it easier for you to capture the stolen items and restore peace!
Activate Jukeboxes using Christmas tokens, which can be earned by completing event missions or by checking Christmas Socks.
If you complete the event, you'll be generously rewarded with exclusive Christmas gifts, featuring one-of-a-kind in-game items that are sure to add some extra holiday cheer to your adventure!

Dnipro River Fish Species
When exploring a new location, the variety of fish species is always a key interest for anglers. The Dnipro River map features 32 fish species, including well-known favorites such as Carp, Northern Pike, European Perch, Zander, Wels Catfish, Grass Carp, Silver Carp, and the iconic Beluga Sturgeon.
In addition to these familiar species, the map introduces 7 new ones, expanding the diversity of catches available. Let’s take a closer look at these species and the opportunities they present.
White-Eye Bream
White-Eye Bream is a ray-finned fish species of the Carp family, widespread in many large rivers of Europe and Asia and in drainages of the Black, Caspian, and White seas. These fish prefer to inhabit large, fast-flowing rivers and estuaries.
White-Eye Breams have silvery-gray elongated bodies flat on the sides and dark gray fins. These fish usually grow to a mass of 1-2.2 lb, with the maximum weight of a unique specimen rarely exceeding 3.3 lb. It is a ray-finned fish species of the Carp family, widespread in many large rivers of Europe and Asia and in drainages of the Black, Caspian, and White seas. These fish prefer to inhabit large, fast-flowing rivers and estuaries.
White-Eye Bream feeds on small crustaceans, mollusks, insects, and insect larvae.
Common Nase
Common Nase is a European freshwater fish of the Carp family. Its natural habitat is the drainages of the Black, Baltic, and North Sea, but this migratory fish has also been introduced to other parts of Europe. Common Nase prefer deep, fast-moving waters, where they usually stay in shoals.
Common Nase has a blue-gray or silvery elongated body with an orange tail. Generally, these fish grow to 9-15 inches in length and weigh from 0.6-2.2 lb. However, unique specimens are known to reach up to 3.5 lb in weight.
These bottom-dwelling fish mainly feed on algae and other aquatic plants.
Sterlet
Sterlet is a relatively small species of Sturgeon found in large rivers in Eurasia, particularly the ones flowing into the Black and Azov seas. This valuable commercial fish prefers to inhabit clean rivers with strong currents and cool water, where it likes to hide in deeper areas with sandy bottoms.
The Sterlet has a long, narrow nose with barbels and an elongated triangular-shaped body that is yellowish-gray and covered with bony plates instead of scales. Distinguished from other Sturgeons by their small size, the Sterlet usually weighs between 2 and 13 lb, with unique specimens sometimes weighing up to about 19 lb.
European Weatherfish
European Weatherfish is a species of Loach widespread in Europe and Asia. It gets its name for coming to the surface and acting excitedly whenever the air pressure changes before a thunderstorm. These fish inhabit still waters of muddy rivers and are resilient to low-oxygen environments.

The Black Sea Roach is considered a rare and valuable fish.
Azov Shad
Azov shad is a freshwater fish of the herring family that adapts to various conditions, including brackish water and sudden temperature changes. From early May, when the water warms up to 59°F, until early June, Azov shad spawns in the Dnipro, seeking the rapid current. Historically, Azov shad has been of significant economic importance for the Kherson region and an essential source of income. People of Kherson simply love this fish!
Monsters
Yes, you read that right—Monsters, plural! Because two monsters are better than one, aren’t they? Fans of the legendary Sturgeon Leviathan Monster will be thrilled to know it’s staying in the game. Even if you’ve already completed this mission before, you’ll have another chance to catch it.
But the monster tale doesn’t stop there—a brand-new beast is making its debut: the formidable Thorn-Ripper.
This aggressive creature prowls the depths of the Dnipro River, a true survivor hardened by centuries of evolution. Its spikes, razor-sharp and menacing, developed as both a defense mechanism and a weapon to dominate its territory. According to legend, the Thorn-Ripper harbors a grudge against fishermen, its rage fueled by the loss of its family to human nets. Stories tell of this monster ramming boats with its needle-like spikes, leaving behind nothing but shattered hulls and terrified anglers.
Catching the Thorn-Ripper won’t be easy. Cautious and elusive, it can only be lured by something truly extraordinary—like the Wasp Walker, a one-of-a-kind bait designed to tempt even the wariest predator.
We won’t spoil the surprise by showing you what this monster looks like. You’ll just have to discover it for yourself when the battle begins. Good luck, Brave Anglers!
Lures, Baits and flavors of Ukraine
In addition to the baits, lures, and groundbaits already available in the game, new options are on the horizon for anglers to discover. Let’s take a closer look at what’s in store.
Salo and Salo Generalske
Salo, the traditional cured pork fat, is a beloved staple of Ukrainian cuisine. If you know what prosciutto is for Italians and jamon for Spaniards, then you understand what salo means for Ukrainians. Typically salted and sometimes infused with garlic or spices, it can be enjoyed raw, smoked, or cooked. But salo isn’t just a culinary treasure—it’s also an excellent bait for carp fishing. Its dense, fatty texture holds securely on the hook, releasing a tantalizing aroma that Common and Grass Carps find irresistible. This bait shines in warm weather, as the heat helps the fat release its enticing scent.
Salo Generalske, on the other hand, is a more refined, premium version. Enhanced through marinating, smoking, or unique seasonings, this "fancier" salo offers an even richer flavor profile. And just as it would impress diners, it’s sure to drive fish wild with its delectable allure.
And as a small taste of Ukrainian hospitality, take a moment to explore the location—you might stumble upon some free pieces of salo to use as bait.
Mole Crickets
While not as appetizing to people as salo, the mole cricket is a true delicacy for fish. This insect, with its hard exoskeleton and juicy body, is a natural treat straight from the Ukrainian landscape. Its earthy, organic aroma works wonders in attracting predatory fish. Widely regarded as one of the best baits for Catfish and other large species, the mole cricket is a trusted choice for local Ukrainian anglers, blending tradition with the wisdom of nature.
Crawling Worms
Thanks to its high flexibility and considerable size, the crawling worm makes an ideal bait for catching large fish. It is effectively used together with different types of hooks, which significantly raises the chances of a successful catch. This bait performs especially well in muddy and overgrown waters, where Catfish dwell and feed. Yummy!
Cicada Spoons
The Cicada is an effective lure designed for fishing at different water depths. Its compact body with front lead weight ensures an accurate and far cast, even in strong winds. The Cicada works great for catching a variety of predatory fish including Bass, Pike, Zander, and Trout thanks to its ability to adapt its vibration to the situation.
Twerky Runners
The Twerky Runners are new effective crankbaits that have a special hunchbacked shape to ensure a fast, high-frequency wobble. The lure has a special aroma that attracts catfish. Rigged with razor-sharp highest quality hooks, the Twerky Runner is great for trolling and particularly suited for using with more powerful fishing rods. Choose your Twerky Runner from a selection of sizes and colors depending on the fishing conditions and how deep you want to go.
Freaky Walkers
Walkers are surface lures that imitate the movement of a wounded fish, frog, or insect on the water surface. Thanks to their ability to produce a variety of movements, Walkers effectively provoke Perch, Chub, Asp, and other surface predators into attacking.
Bionic Slugs
Bionic Slugs are innovative lures that imitate a fast-moving fish and are made of high-quality silicone. With its realistic shiny scales and a forked tail, this lure mimics a wounded fish to attract predators. Its soft tail moves attractively in the water. The slug is easy to use: just put the hook through its mouth and tighten the line through the metal ring. Suitable for catching various types of fish in both fresh and salt water.
Thorn Jig Heads
Developed by the world’s top anglers, the Thorn Jig Head proves that the devil is in the details. Small changes lead to significant improvements. The beveled weight provides a louder and clearer impact even on soft ground, while a special plastic spike holds the silicone in place, allowing you to make the retrieve in difficult conditions. The weights are painted in colors visible to fish even at great depths, significantly increasing your chances for a successful catch!
Groundbaits
We’re also introducing a variety of new groundbaits, particles, and aromas, but we’d like to highlight a few personal favorites that hold a special place in our hearts. These selections carry a nostalgic charm for our team, reminding us of cherished memories from childhood.
Gingerbread Classic Groundbait has a characteristic sweet aroma and is made with spices, which means it can effectively attract fish even in cold weather. Low cost and high efficiency make this groundbait unique.
Mamalyha, a traditional Ukrainian-style corn porridge similar to Italian polenta, brings a rich, hearty flavor to the table—and to the water. When transformed into feeder bait with added aromas, it becomes an irresistible treat for all kinds of peaceful fish, including Bream and Carp. This time-honored recipe blends tradition with effectiveness, making it a go-to choice for anglers seeking success.
Corn sticks are not only a delicious snack popular in Ukraine, but also a feeder groundbait ideal to use for peaceful fish! It has an attractive texture and smell that ensures fish are active near your fishing spot for a long time.
Baked milk is a classic Ukrainian drink made by slowly baking milk overnight in a cooling traditional stove. This gentle process caramelizes the natural sugars in the milk, giving it a rich, caramel-like aroma. A geyser groundbait infused with baked milk aroma is designed to quickly release its enticing scent into the water, creating a powerful "geyser" effect that draws fish from afar. Especially effective in deep fishing, this chum's sweet fragrance guarantees to capture the attention of nearby fish, ensuring a successful catch.
This location is deeply cherished by the Fishing Planet team, and we've poured all our passion into creating it. The Dnipro River has inspired countless generations, serving as a symbol of Ukraine’s natural beauty and cultural legacy. The esteemed poet Taras Shevchenko captured the river’s essence in his powerful words:
"The mighty Dnipro roars and bellows,
The wind in anger howls and raves,
Down to the ground it bends the willows,
And mountain-high lifts up the waves."
These vivid lines not only highlight the river's grandeur but also convey its wild, untamed energy, which contrasts beautifully with the calm and peaceful experience that awaits you. As you explore this iconic waterway, you’ll follow the path of generations who’ve found inspiration, sustenance, and a deep connection to nature along its banks. Welcome to our home and enjoy your stay!___________________________________________________________________

DevDiary: Ocean Life of Noomaa Kuda Atholhu
in Developer Diaries
Posted
Hey Anglers,
Welcome to the next stop in our journey — the Maldives, a true gem of the Indian Ocean and a paradise for sportfishing enthusiasts. We've already introduced this breathtaking location in our previous DevDiary — now it's time to dive deeper and explore the incredible fish species that call these waters home.
Swaying palms under a blazing sun, crystal-clear waters brimming with life, shimmering fish darting just beneath the surface — we are creating the Maldives at their finest. The dry season has settled in, bringing perfect conditions for ocean fishing. A tropical paradise where Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi-Mahi, Sailfish, and Marlin are entering their peak feeding frenzy.
The geography of the Maldives plays a key role in shaping the habitats where different fish species thrive. Spanning the Indian Ocean, the islands are arranged in two parallel chains of atolls that rise from a deep oceanic plateau. Between them lies the Inner Sea — a calmer, more sheltered area rich with diverse fishing grounds. Venture west, however, and you’ll encounter the true open ocean: expansive, untamed, and brimming with big-game potential.
This location will feature 28 fish species, including 14 completely new additions to the game. We will cover the new arrivals in this DevDiary, but you’ll also recognize some familiar faces from other regions. Species like Yellowfin Tuna, Bigeye Tuna, Albacore, Skipjack Tuna, and Dogtooth Tuna will feel right at home in these tropical waters.
Other well-known species such as Greater Amberjack, Giant Trevally, Narrow-Barred Mackerel, and Striped Marlin will also make an appearance here, taking advantage of the deep reefs and fast-moving currents. Even reef dwellers like Giant Grouper, Ruby Snapper, Mahi-Mahi, Striped Bonito, and Green Jobfish will continue their usual routines, now within the vibrant underwater landscape of Noomaa Kuda Atholhu. All of these species are already familiar to anglers from Kaiji No Ri — but here, in the Indian Ocean, the warmer waters and open space allow some of them to grow even larger here, offering the thrilling opportunity to encounter their powerful Unique forms.
And of course, we can’t leave out the Fish Monsters. You’ll have to defeat two new monster fish: The Night Windrazor and The Hordecuda. You might be able to guess the real-life inspiration behind the first one — and maybe even take a shot at what the second could be — but we’re confident the Hordecuda will surprise you. As the Brave Angler, you’ll need to save the world first to uncover what these terrifying creatures truly look like, and we can’t wait for you to discover it.
Let’s start with the ocean’s most legendary hunters — the Billfish.
Swordfish
The Swordfish (Xiphias gladius) is a powerful pelagic predator that can reach up to 1322 lb (600 kg). Found in tropical and temperate waters worldwide, though it may also roam into colder regions. It rarely approaches the shore, preferring the open ocean, where it moves between surface layers at night and depths of up to 1804 ft (550 m) during the day. A solitary hunter, the Swordfish feeds on squid, pelagic fish like mackerel and herring, and sometimes even tuna or small sharks. While most active at night, it also feeds in daylight.
Sailfish
The Sailfish (Istiophorus) is known as the fastest fish in the ocean. It lives in warm waters around the world and usually hunts near the surface, though it can dive as deep as 1968 ft (600 m) when needed. While Sailfish prefer the open sea, they often roam closer to shorelines, reefs, and islands, especially where the water stays deep and clear.
Active both during the day and at night, they usually hunt in groups, feeding on sardines, anchovies, mackerel, squid, and sometimes even crustaceans. Sailfish are also known to travel alongside tuna, which makes them a familiar catch in tuna fishing grounds.
Black Marlin
The Black Marlin (Istiompax indica) is a massive pelagic predator, found throughout the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Weighing up to 1653 lb (750 kg), it’s one of the most sought-after catches in both commercial and sport fishing. These fish prefer surface waters near coasts, islands, and coral reefs. While usually solitary, Black Marlins may appear in numbers when baitfish gather near the surface. Their diet includes small tuna, anchovies, mackerel, flying fish, squid, and crustaceans like shrimp and crabs.
As you can see, some of the Billfish you'll encounter are absolute giants, with weights reaching up to 1650 lb (750 kg). But don’t worry — you’ll have a chance to get fully equipped to take them on, with powerful gear and plenty of storage space aboard the new Chamaeleon catamaran.
Discover the Exotic Reef Species of Noomaa Kuda
Alongside the formidable Billfish, a wide variety of other species contribute to the vibrant underwater life of Noomaa Kuda Atholhu. While many of them aren’t giants, their coral reef habitats make them beautiful and exotic — a true delight for anglers seeking something unique.
Great Barracuda
When something flashes past like a silver bolt and vanishes just as fast — chances are, it’s a barracuda. The Great Barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda) is a medium-sized but formidable predator, found in warm waters across the globe. Weighing up to 110 lb (50 kg), it hunts in a wide range of habitats, from mangroves to outer reefs, always alert and ready to strike. This aggressive species bites in any weather, day or night. Young barracudas often move in groups, while adults prefer to go solo. Their main targets are small fish, with the occasional squid — and shrimp only when they’re feeling generous.
Wahoo
Wahoo (Acanthocybium solandri) is a large predatory fish from the mackerel family, reaching up to 176 lb (80 kg). They live in open ocean waters but often stay close to coasts, reefs, and continental shelves. They hunt fish and squid, either alone or in small groups, and are known for striking from below with sudden bursts of speed about 50 mph (80 km/h). They're often spotted near tuna schools and are most active around sunrise and sunset, though they’ll still bite at night — just a little more slowly.
Indo-Pacific King Mackerel
The Indo-Pacific King Mackerel (Scomberomorus guttatus) is a medium-sized fish from the mackerel family, found in the warm waters of the Indian and western Pacific Oceans. Reaching up to 11 lb (5 kg) and beyond, this pelagic fish prefers coastal waters at depths of 49 to 262 ft (15 to 80 m). It’s a prized catch for commercial fishers and a worthy challenge for anglers. King Mackerel travels in small schools , dining on sardines, anchovies, squid, and the occasional crustacean. They are active both day and night, so there’s no bad time to go fishing for them. But beware - once hooked, these fish love to leap and thrash.
Two-Spot Red Snapper
The Two-Spot Red Snapper (Lutjanus bohar) is a long-lived Indo-Pacific species that can reach up to 33 lb (15 kg) and live over five decades. Found near reef slopes and sandy seabeds, it prefers oceanic islands to continental shores. Usually solitary, but it forms schools during spawning season. It feeds on fish, shrimp, crabs, snails, and mollusks — and tends to bite best at dawn, dusk, or under a full moon.
Yellowstripe Scad
The Yellowstripe Scad (Selaroides leptolepis) is a small schooling fish found in the warm, coastal waters of the Indo-West Pacific. These agile swimmers thrive at depths of up to 229 ft (70 m), often gathering in large groups near the seabed over soft, sandy bottoms. Despite their size, Yellowstripe Scad are efficient predators with surprisingly large mouths. Their diet ranges from tiny zooplankton and invertebrates, like crustaceans and mollusks, to fish larvae — and even smaller scad. While they’re mostly active during the day, they’ve been known to feed at night too.
Gorgeous Swallowtail
The Gorgeous Swallowtail (Meganthias natalensis) is a jewel of the deep. Reaching up to 4 lb (2 kg), it prefers rocky slopes and deep reefs between 262 and 721 ft (80 and 220 m). These vivid reef-dwellers feed on small fish, mollusks, and crustaceans. They often share habitats with Ruby Snappers and Groupers, and remain active around the clock.
Sleek Unicornfish
The Sleek Unicornfish (Naso hexacanthus) is a graceful reef dweller, found from 39 to 114 ft (12 to 35 m) deep in lagoons and along coral slopes. This species tends to stay in large schools, making it a striking sight in its natural habitat. Omnivorous by nature, they feed on various zooplankton and algae. It’s active in all weather conditions, both day and night, though it often ventures closer to shore after sunset.
Giant Sweetlips
The Giant Sweetlips (Plectorhinchus albovittatus) is a nocturnal bottom-feeder that prefers living alone near lagoons and barrier reefs. Found at depths up to 164 ft (50 m), it snacks on crustaceans, mollusks, and small fish. During the day, it retreats into deeper reef zones, emerging at night to feed.
Spotfin Flyingfish
The Spotfin Flyingfish (Cheilopogon furcatus) is one of the larger flying fish species, growing up to 13,8 in (35 cm) and weighing around 1lb (0.5 kg). Found in warm waters worldwide, it lives near the surface, whether in coastal areas or the open ocean. These fish stick together in small schools and follow currents that bring zooplankton to the surface. Their diet includes tiny crustaceans, mollusk larvae, fish eggs, and small fish. Active both day and night but especially drawn to light after sunset.
Sickle Pomfret
The Sickle Pomfret (Taractichthys steindachneri) is a medium-sized fish that lives in deep waters, usually between 164 and 2296 ft (50 and 700 m), often near underwater mountains or along continental shelf slopes. This fish is a group-hunting omnivore, feeding on small fish, squid, crustaceans, and tunicates. It’s also a favorite meal for Bigeye Tuna, Swordfish, and Sharks. Since it lives in dark, deep waters, the Sickle Pomfret isn’t tied to specific feeding times and bites both day and night.
Blacktip Reef Shark
The Blacktip Reef Shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus) is a sleek coastal predator that prowls warm Indo-Pacific waters. Weighing up to 44 lb (20 kg), it glides effortlessly across coral shallows and sandy flats. Adults stick to reef slopes and platforms, while younger sharks prefer calmer lagoons. Often seen in small schools, they’re quick, alert, and always on the hunt for reef fish, squid, crabs — and occasionally even small rays or sea snakes.
We saved the Blacktip Reef Shark for dessert — and for good reason. We know many players have been looking forward to more sharks in the game, and this one is a standout addition. While not the largest predator, the Blacktip is one of the most common and iconic sharks in the Maldives, making it a must-have for this location.
There’s also a special surprise waiting for those who take on the catamaran color customization missions. We won’t spoil it for you, but let’s just say — if you’re a fan of really big sharks, you’re going to love what we’ve prepared for you.
We know many of our players are hungry for bigger sharks, and they’re definitely on the horizon. This is just the beginning of an epic shark chapter in the game.
To top it off, we’re also preparing another DevDiary that will dive into the gear, lures, and baits specially crafted for Noomaa Kuda Atholhu. We’ll also introduce a new retrieval technique and showcase the unique features of the Chamaeleon catamaran. From new setups to tropical tactics, there’s plenty more coming to get your hands on. Stay tuned — your next fishing adventure is about to get even better.
Until then — tight lines and see you on the water!
