Hey, anglers:) As you well know, Fishing Planet will soon be expanding its fishing premises onto the much awaited European regions! An so, today we’ll tell you about the Ghent–Terneuzen Canal in the Kingdom of the Netherlands - a place where you’ll be having some unforgettable fishing adventures! Also known as Zeekanaal (or simply the Sea Canal), it links Ghent in Belgium to the port of Terneuzen on the Westerschelde estuary in the Netherlands. This deep canal (about 12m / 40 ft in depth) runs 200m (660 ft) wide and 32 km (20 mi) long, while serving as a navigable passage for large vessels almost all year round. The in-game fishing locations are situated on the part of the canal near the small town of Westdorpe, just a few miles off the Belgium–Netherlands border. The shoreline is somewhat monotonous, which on the one hand makes this area seem a bit dull, but on the other - provides a perfect location for large-scale feeder and float fishing competitions. In fact, World Feeder Championships 2015 was held here as well as countless regional and local competitions. Among other things, this canal is so attractive to anglers because it is inhabited both by typical freshwater species (Ide, Common Bream and Common Roach) as well as sea fish (like the European Flounder, Thicklip Grey Mullet and the European Eel). Only the eastern bank (right side) of the canal in this location is available for fishing. The fishing area is about 1km in length. Since this waterway is a canal, the steady-sloping grassy bank is basically unchanging, lined with some reed thickets close to the shore. Beyond the fishing area, you’ll see a hilly tree-lined landscape with a highway and farm fields barely noticeable in the distance. Although the landscape and the shoreline are largely unchanged, the fishing area can be roughly divided into two parts, that is two fishing locations: 1) An urbanistic bank near a large highway span bridge, overlooking a large elevator and massive warehouses on the opposite side; 2) A shoreline overlooking Dutch houses and farm fields with windmills. Here are some interesting man-made objects that we added as part of the scenery: 1) a highway span-bridge across the canal; 2) huge cargo ships navigating the canal; 3) towboats and freight-laden barges navigating the canal; 4) an industrial area with a moore and an elevator across the canal; 5) modern and old-fashioned windmills atop the hills across the canal; 6) Dutch-style houses as part of the landscape. Here’s a quick overview to give you a general idea on how we created the new waterway: First off, our game-designer (who is also an expert angler) did some in-depth R'n'D looking for the right waterway in the Netherlands. The key factor to consider was the waterway’s popularity particularly among feeder anglers in the region. Since we were looking at the Netherlands, we wanted it to be a canal, to add some local coloring. Among other factors were the abundance of fish species, some interesting landscapes (we don’t want to repeat ourselves), etc. Once we found the perfect waterway, our angling game-designer drafted up a detailed plan with a map and all the necessary info that was further handed over to our 3D artists. It was up to them to create the scene, plant the trees and bushes, design and scale the industrial objects, etc. After that, it was up to our programmers to do some coding magic and make the towboats and cargo ships move, the windmills spin, the cars drive and the span-bridge turn. Finally, once all of that was completed, it was once again up to our angling game-designer to create the waterway’s bottom terrain and structure. And right now, we are working on the fish setup for this waterway which is one of the final steps before waterway introduction into the Game.

The coolest thing about bottom fishing is the possibility of using different rods simultaneously! That’s what makes so many anglers hyped about this way of fishing, and that’s exactly what we are currently working on!;) Once the whole Multi-rod feature is introduced to the game, we’ll also be adding new fishing equipment, namely the Rod Holders, that will let you catch fish using multiple rods at the same time! At first, we plan to add about 7 different kinds of Rod Holders, that will mostly differ by their rod capacity, being capable of holding from 1 to 4 rods each. This means that the player will get a chance to take one Rod Holder on a fishing trip and use it by setting up in any convenient location, as well as adjusting its direction and height. We also plan to add the possibility of taking multiple Rod Holders with a capacity for 1 rod, so that you could set them up in different locations. Certain rod holder models will even have a Bite Signal feature installed. Aside from this, we’ll also be adding stationary rod holders on some of the waterways that will be available for all anglers to use. When all the functionalities related to bottom fishing and rod holders are introduced to the game, the players will be able to fish using various lures and baits simultaneously, which should drastically change everyone’s attitude to float and bottom-fishing rigs!

Hey dear anglers, if you’re keeping track of the posts in our Dev Diaries, you might already know that aside from introducing bottom fishing and new European waterways, our team is working hard on adding Missions to your Fishing Planet experience! In this release , we are happy to present you the 1st iteration of the Missions update - Tutorial Missions. These missions are available to all players, and while they were specifically created to enrich and make the learning process more efficient for the less experienced folks, many of them will be quite useful even for the more proficient anglers. After all, Tutorial Missions are based on tasks that help you get a deeper understanding of the game as well as apply logic to choosing the best and most appropriate tackle and baits. This means, no matter how good you think you are, there still might be some cool features you overlooked! Tutorial Mission are comprised of a number of tasks accompanied by hints and will be available as you progress all throughout the game. There is a special Missions tab, where you can see the list of completed missions as well as the description and progress status of the current one. If you choose to track your current mission, all related hints and tasks will be showing up as you play the game. Or you can simply untrack your Mission to turn off the hints and mission widget. Missions are a new addition to your overall gaming experience that can be both fun and useful, but they are optional, and whether to complete them or not is entirely up to you! However, we do hope that you’ll use this opportunity to sharpen your perspective, learn cool new things and get a better understanding of the game as you explore the Fishing Planet world with Missions and, of course, get rewards for completing them! Like we already said, this is only the 1st iteration of Missions update. The next iteration will include more complex missions for more experienced players of average or high proficiency levels and will be aimed at exploring the waterways and mastering your fishing skills. These tasks will require a lot of effort and skill on your part, but with greater rewards to match the sweat and tears you put in! Also, the next iteration of the mission will allow you to catch a new special fish that is not available in ordinary gameplay! Besides missions, Patch 1.3.2. will bring you: new challenge: the Barbless Master Level XP requirements changed to be in sync with new and upcoming missions. updated local and global map UI updated game UI controller improvements new sound effects more menu music And so, with the Missions finally out, you can substantially improve your progress, discover cool new fishing spots, tackle and features or simply test yourself to see if there was some stuff you might’ve been missing all along?

The Developers Diaries: New Fish and Waterways! Filled with inspiration and driven by our passion for fishing, we’ve been working on a global update of our game for quite a long time now. Sparing no efforts, we’re dead set to give you a renewed Fishing Planet experience of the highest quality! And since our game is celebrating it’s third anniversary this August, we decided to share some developer inside scoop and give you guys an idea of the great wonders ahead: like the completely new European waterways, even more kinds of fish species, and a few other features you’re sure to love!;) So read on… Waterways: We’re finally adding a completely new region of the world to Fishing Planet - Europe! Now you’ll be able to enjoy fishing the many European waterways, complete with their own unique vibe, scenic surroundings, beautiful nature and all the realistic details inherent to the region! The global map will be represented as a 3D globe. We’ll be adding 10 new waterways in total, all scattered around different European countries. Now you can go on a real fishing adventure and travel to countries like the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Italy, Russia, the Netherlands, and a few other places that we’re keeping a secret for now!;) The first iteration of the new waterways will include 5 new rivers and lakes of the European region. At this stage, we’ll be introducing waterways of: The Czech Republic: The Netherlands: Italy: Russia: and Great Britain: You’ll get the chance to indulge in meditative fishing on a delightfully serene little pond, amidst the charming Czech woods, or land a trophy fishing the wide canals in the Netherlands, surrounded by a mesmerizingly urbanistic landscape, or even fill up your keepnet on the boisterous Carp ponds of Great Britain. And that’s not even mentioning the inimitable dolce vita vibe of captivating Italian scenery, that you can enjoy along with fantastic sunsets and the fishing rod in hand! Fish: Along with the European waterways, we’re introducing over 20 new fish species! Read on to find out more about some of the fish that’ll be added in the first iteration... Czech Republic will be the place to go if you’re up to catching some savoury Tench, Prussian Carp and plenty of Common Roach. You’ll love fishing in Italy, as the local waterways are well known for plentiful Asp, Common Barbel, Grayling and Carp. And how about conquering the tricky Eel in the Netherlands? Great Britain is sure to uplift your spirits as its waterways are abundant in Grass Carp. But what you’re bound to enjoy the most on this Foggy Albion, is the humongous Common Carp - big like you’ve never seen!;) Russia will be the place to go if you’re up to hunting some Sterlet. But that’s only one of the countless species inhabiting the deep underwater kingdom of Akhtuba river, including Zander and Blue Bream. Aside from all of the above, you guys are in for many more new kinds of fish, that will be quite a challenge to catch and will call for your best fishing skills!;) But the introduction of new waterways means not only more species of fish, but also more opportunities! Alongside the European region, we’re introducing …. feeder fishing, ta-da! Now you can enjoy bottom fishing with the aid of feeders to constantly attract more fish to your spot! Why are so many anglers hyped about feeder fishing, you might ask. Well, thing is, while the fish consumes some of the bait in the feeder, the rest of the bait gets spread around the bottom of that area, which efficiently attracts other fish, thus multiplying your chances of a good catch! This function is literally a gateway to new possibilities, substantially increasing the quantity and quality of your catches! But even that’s not all. Multi-Rod Fishing: For now on, you’ll no longer need to constantly switch between rods and lures, making the frustrating choice of what fish to catch first and what tackle to use. The multi-rod function will double your chances of a catch and let you enjoy a variety of fish hunting options! No more tough choices. From now on you can just set up a bunch of rods simultaneously and enjoy waiting for the bites. Soon enough you’ll get a chance to experience all these updates firsthand and try them out yourself! However, such a massive update calls for great responsibility on our part. We want to make sure that everything functions like clockwork and give our full attention to even the smallest details. This means that we still have a big chunk of work ahead of us. And it’ll require at least a few months to do everything right. But trust us, it’s definitely worth the wait!;) In the meantime, stay with us to keep track of the updates and… tight lines!;)
