Hey Anglers,
We hope you enjoyed our little April 1st joke yesterday, but now it’s time to get serious about what’s really coming next.
As part of the Catch & Compete Update coming this Spring, we’re continuing to reveal what’s ahead. We’ve already covered the new Rating & Matchmaking system and the Rewarding Leaderboards in our previous Dev Diaries.
Today, we’re excited to introduce two long-awaited features arriving soon – Colored Buoys and Daily Missions.
Let’s dive into what’s coming next!
Your Buoys, Your Colors
Colored Buoys have been one of the most requested features among anglers, as it can help you keep your markers and fishing spots organized. With the new update, you’ll be able to change the color of a buoy whether it marks a fish you’ve just caught or is simply an empty marker you placed earlier.
The default marker color remains green, but with the new feature you will be able to change it to one of the eight available colors.
To change the color, simply open your tablet, find the buoy icon on the map, and select it. This opens the buoy details panel, where you’ll see a new Brush button. Pressing it opens the color selection menu.Inside the color menu you’ll find a palette of available colors. When you open the menu, the currently selected color will already be highlighted.
Once you pick the color you want, you can confirm the change and the buoy will update both on the tablet map and the 3D buoy floating in the water.
Every angler can create their own buoy color system, marking Uniques and Trophies, separating casual spots from competition areas, or organizing locations however they prefer. Buoy colors can be changed anytime, with no limits.
Since each player will use their own system, shared buoys will always appear in the default green color. The receiving player can then customize them as they wish or simply keep them green.
Tablet Filters for Buoys
When you start using multiple colors, your tablet can become a convenient organization tool.
You’ll be able to filter buoys by color directly on the tablet, allowing you to show or hide specific colors whenever you want. You can also toggle the visibility of all buoys entirely if you want a clean map.
These filters will reset when you restart the game or travel to another waterway, just the way they do currently.
Though simple at first glance, we hope buoy coloring will be a small addition that delivers a cool quality-of-life improvement to your fishing experience. As a bonus, this update also increases the Marker Buoy limit from 2000 to 2500, something we know anglers have been looking forward to.
Daily Missions
When developing this feature, we focused on a few key goals: giving players daily activities to look forward to, adding variety to your fishing experience, and, most importantly, creating new, consistent ways to earn Baitcoins and Club Tokens.
Daily Missions are a set of time-limited tasks that refresh every day, giving you objectives to complete and rewards to earn. Every day, you will receive up to three missions, generated by the system based on your current level and activity:
- Daily Catch – available for all players
- Club Catch – available for club members
- Premium Catch – available to players with an active Premium account
If a mission doesn’t match what you feel like doing, you can regenerate it and get a new set of tasks. Each completed mission will reward you with Experience and either Baitcoins or Club Tokens. We hope these assignments will encourage you to revisit locations you haven’t explored in a while and try new ways of catching species you may not have focused on before.
We hope the entire Catch & Compete Update will give every Angler something new to bring into their experience on the water.
If you’re into competition, the Competitive Rating and Matchmaking system makes the whole process feel more clear and transparent. If you enjoy seeing your progress grow and being rewarded for it, the New Rewarding Leaderboards will have you covered. And if you like experimenting, learning, and trying out different setups, Daily Missions will give you plenty of opportunities to do exactly that!
We’re getting close now, so stay tuned as we head toward release and get ready to try it all for yourselves!
Tight lines, and see you on the water!

Hey Anglers,
We’re back with another look at the improvements coming in the Catch & Compete Update coming this Spring! In the previous Dev Diary, we introduced the new Rating and Matchmaking System. Today, we want to talk about the new Leaderboards.
Leaderboards have long been part of Fishing Planet, offering a fun way to see how you measure up against other anglers. When thinking of improvements to this feature, our goal was to make everything clearer and more transparent, while also making Leaderboards more engaging and motivating to participate in. Most importantly, players will now receive rewards for reaching the top positions on the Leaderboards.
With this update, Leaderboards page will feature three tabs: Global, Competitions, and Fish. Each category includes multiple options to choose from, effectively creating literally more than a thousand of different boards you can climb, allowing you to earn multiple rewards across them all.
Let’s take a closer look at what will change and how the new leaderboards will work.
The Global Leaderboards
The Global Leaderboards Tab will include time filters for week, month, and year, so you can view rankings for each specific period. Each leaderboard only shows results from its own timeframe, and when a new period begins, the previous one is no longer displayed.
Weekly Leaderboards reset every Monday, Monthly Leaderboards reset on the first day of each month, and Yearly Leaderboards restart on January 1. This means that every Sunday, every last day of each month, and on December 31, players holding top positions on the Leaderboards will receive their rewards.
You can switch filters as you like and select exactly what you want to see. Simply click on the time period and choose the one you want to view.
The other filter lets you choose from the list: Experience, Young, Common, Trophy, or Unique, and view the top players by the amount of XP gained during the selected period or by the number of the selected fish form caught during that time.
You can also select Total Fish in the filter to see how many fish the top anglers caught during the selected period. By clicking on the position numbers, you can also see which rewards you will receive for finishing in that place.
Keep in mind that Leaderboards will feature regular fish and will not include Fish Monsters, Tutorial Fish and Mission Fish.
Fish you catch during competitions do count, and so does the experience you earn from them. So everything you land in normal gameplay and competitive events will still help you climb the Leaderboards.
Competitions Leaderboards
Competition Leaderboards work similarly to Global ones but focus specifically on competitive performance. Since competitions require more skill, experience, and practice, the rewards for top positions on these boards will be higher than on other leaderboards.
They will also run on weekly, monthly, and yearly cycles, so you can track who’s dominating over different time frames.
Navigating these filters works the same way as on the Global tab. In addition to choosing the time period, you can also filter by Rating or by the number of Wins in competitions.
Filtering by Ratings shows the top 100 players with the highest personal competitive rating earned during the selected period.
The Wins filter shows the top 100 players with the highest number of first-place finishes in competitions during the current week, month, or year.
Fish Leaderboards
Fish Leaderboards rank players by the record weights of specific fish species caught on a particular waterway during the current week, month, or year.
When you select a location, in the next filter you will see all the fish species that can be found there, highlighted in green so they are easy to spot.
It all looks quite clear and transparent, but what happens if two or more players end up with exactly the same results?
When players have identical numbers on a leaderboard, the system first checks who reached that result earlier in real time. The player who achieved it first takes the higher position. If the tie still remains, the game applies extra criteria to fairly determine the final positions on the Leaderboard.
Another important improvement that came alongside the new Leaderboards system is an update to the fish weight distribution algorithm. While working on Leaderboards, we also focused on improving and balancing how fish weights are generated, making the system more fair and consistent.
A part of this system has already been running on our live servers, and since then it has been significantly refined. With the full release, we expect fish weights in the game to be spread more evenly.
Rewards
As we already mentioned in the beginning, the new Leaderboards will come with rewards.
When a new period begins, players who finished in prize positions during the previous one automatically receive their rewards. These can include unique X-Series items, Premium Account time, Club Tokens, BaitCoins, Credits, and other valuable bonuses that make reaching the top more rewarding. We’re also adding brand-new exclusive items to the reward pool, making the climb up the Leaderboards even more desired.
What makes this system most exciting is the sheer number of opportunities it offers. With so many fish species across all waterways in the game, there will be more than a thousand different Leaderboards. That means thousands of chances to earn rewards every week, month, and year. You can receive multiple rewards at the same time if you place on different boards for different fish or parameters.
There will be something for everyone. You might focus on gaining as much XP as possible, catching large numbers of fish, landing the biggest specimens of your favorite species, or dedicating yourself to competitive activities. With the new Rating and Matchmaking system, participating will also be much easier for beginner players.
We hope the new Leaderboards system adds more excitement and motivation for everyone to jump in and compete!
Stay tuned for the next DevDiaries to discover more about what quality-of-life improvements and features are coming in the Catch & Compete Update this Spring.
Tight lines and see you soon!

Hey Anglers,
As many of you know, a new Norway location was recently added on Steam, Epic Games, PlayStation, and Xbox, and will soon arrive on Mobile and Nintendo Switch. Our Planet keeps expanding and evolving, and as our fishing world grows deeper and more dynamic, we’re working to make sure every moment you spend in the game feels smooth, rewarding, and truly worth your time.
With that in mind, here’s a little behind-the-scenes sneak peek at what we’re working on right now. Future updates will bring a full range of quality-of-life improvements designed to refine and enhance the experience you already know and enjoy. We’ve named this future release the Catch & Compete Update, and the next few DevDiaries will focus on the features it introduces.
Today, we’re starting with an important update to Competitive Activities, and within the next few weeks there will be more DevDiaries about what’s coming next. We’re introducing a brand-new Rating and Matchmaking System, built to make our competitions more balanced and open the door for players of all levels and angling skills.
Please, be aware that for now this new Rating and Matchmaking System will apply specifically to Competitions, and won’t affect Tournaments or Custom Competitions.
Competitive Rating
From the questions we’ve been getting from players over time, it became clear that the previous rating system often felt overly complicated and hard to understand. At times, it felt like we were the guy in the meme below, trying to explain how it all worked
The upcoming Competitive Rating system is built to be clear and fully transparent, with all information available right in the competition interface.
The Rating Points you earn will depend on your final placement. You’ll be able to see exactly how many points each position awards in the Competition Details window, under the Rewards tab. Competitions held on higher-level waterways offer a greater challenge and therefore will reward more Rating Points, while events on lower-level waterways will naturally grant fewer points.
Rest assured, if you already have a Competitive Rating in the game, it will be preserved. Once the new Rating System goes live, you’ll continue right from where you left off.
One Competition, Multiple Groups
The system will analyze all the participants who registered in a competition and split them into separate groups based on their Competitive Rating. Players then compete only within their own group, each with its own leaderboard and results.
Each group will include players whose ratings are as close to each other as possible. This will help ensure that competition inside every group feels balanced, fair and transparent. The system will be dynamic, so groups in each competition may be divided differently depending on the number of participants and their ratings.
When the number of participants allows for multiple groups, the system will apply multi-phase combinatorial optimization, mathematically evaluating every possible distribution of groups until it converges on the fairest allocation. Exact arithmetic will eliminate rounding errors from the process entirely. As a result, every group composition will be the product of a rigorous, provably convergent optimization, not chance.
However, there will be a minimum number of participants required to create groups; if there are not enough participants, all players will compete in a single group. So, the more participants, the more chances you get to compete with players who have angling skills similar to yours.
The UI will be quite comprehensive and transparent. Once matchmaking is complete you will see in which group you are and the list of participating groups.
Players will not see their exact position during the scoring period, but when it is over, the final leaderboard will become visible, clearly showing your placement within your group.
Please note, that with this new Matchmaking System it will be very important to know beforehand how many participants there are in every competition, so as for the system to properly divide all of the anglers into balanced groups. This is why registering for a competition without actually participating will result in a rating penalty.
That said, there also will be a few exceptions. You won’t be penalized if you withdraw before the competition starts, or if you catch at least one qualifying fish and then leave before the competition ends.
We hope this update will encourage more players to jump into competitive activities and make them a regular part of their gameplay. And now it’s your turn, we’d love to hear what you think. Your feedback plays a huge role in shaping Fishing Planet into a better place for every angler out there. Skårland Fjord, Norway
Set out for a brand-new destination — Skårland Fjord, Norway, 10x10 km which makes it 100 square kilometers (almost 25,000 acres) of icy Norwegian Sea. These waters are home to 25 cold-water fish species, all of them completely new to Fishing Planet, including regional icons like Norwegian Atlantic Salmon, Herring, several Cod species, as well as predators such as the European Angler. You’ll also encounter true giants such as Atlantic Halibut, Porbeagle Shark, European Sea Sturgeon, and the long-living Greenland Shark. With every form and variation, Skårland Fjord offers 79 fish to discover, making it one of the most diverse and content-rich waterways in the game!
Players can unlock this location at level 105, or dive right into the fishing saga with one of the DLC packs, each including 30- or 60-day access, plus an Advanced License and Premium account for the same time period. The maximum level cap in the game has been increased from 100 to 110.
Long awaited crane for huge fish available now!
Introducing a brand-new Valkyrie fishing boat that stays stable in rough waters keeping its speed, cuts through high waves, and even breaks ice! It’s all about getting more out of every trip at sea. With 3 rod holders per angler, all four players on board can fish multiple rods at once — meaning more bites and way more fish in the same amount of time. The rod holders are fully adjustable, so you can set everything up exactly the way you like. While this boat is focused mostly on bottom fishing, you can still take it across all saltwater locations in the game and use it for trolling as well.
For truly massive catches, the Valkyrie features a heavy-fish crane. Once your catch hits a certain weight, the crane lifts it aboard and lets you snap stunning shots of your haul. And the best part is that you don't have to own the boat, since all guests in Fishing Together sessions can share the crane for their giant fish as well.
The Valkyrie comes equipped with an extra-large 3,500 kg fish storage with max fish capacity of 720 kg. For the first time in the game, an ocean boat features refrigerated, fish-friendly storage, keeping your catch in top condition and rewarding you with a generous +20% Credits and +20% XP bonus for every fish. Add the ability to fish with four rods at once, and you’ll quickly notice how much faster you can level up.
Dive into a new chain of Adventure Missions and help out the local residents along the way. All players will unlock useful Tablet firmware upgrades and earn unique rewards. And for those who own the Valkyrie and are ready to take on truly massive catches, there's a chance to face one of the biggest monsters on The Planet.
The Valkyrie Fishing Boat, 3 next-generation AquaVolt™ electric bottom setups, a full arsenal of terminal tackle, and 50 Repair Kits can be obtained with the Valkyrie Saga Pack. With 60 days of access, Advanced License, Premium account, and extra Marker and Navigation Buoys, you’re fully equipped to jump straight into big game fishing and start building your heroic epos on the open water.
Ingrid Fishing Boat
Ingrid is a sturdy, traditional Norwegian fishing boat built for harsh northern conditions. Compact, reliable, and easy to handle, it feels right at home among narrow fjords and rocky coastlines. Just like the Valkyrie, Ingrid stays steady in Rough Water Zones, keeping control in bad weather, and can break through ice. Ingrid is available for rent at Skårland Fjord — giving every Angler a chance to experience authentic Nordic fishing without owning a boat.
Electric Rods and Reels Setups
Some of the new species in Skårland Fjord can grow to truly massive sizes — up to 700 kg. To take on giants like these, Electric Rods and Reels are finally making their debut in Fishing Planet. This update introduces two brand-new equipment categories: Electric Saltwater Bottom Casting Rods and Electric Saltwater Casting Reels.
Designed to work together, electric rod and reel setups are built to handle extreme pressure where regular gear simply won’t hold up. Electric reels make your life much easier – with the push of a button, they automatically pull in the line, giving you a huge advantage against deep-sea predators.
When mounted on a rod holder, electric reels become even more efficient and help you maintain better control over multiple rods at once. Please note that electric reels also feature a manual mode which offers a higher Max Load. You can switch between manual mode and electric mode for optimal reeling in different situations. Electric reels also come with different reeling speeds, so feel free to experiment and find the best match for each type of fish.
Saltwater Spinning Rods for vertical jigging
These rods are generally shorter, with a highly responsive blank and a reinforced tip, allowing for sharp, repetitive vertical movements—perfect for lifting and dropping heavy jigs with precision.
You can get two powerful Njörinvik™ spinning setups for vertical jigging, along with a Rod Case, an extra-spacious Tackle Wagon, and a wide selection of lures and baits in the Nordic Legend Pack. To fully embrace the harsh northern vibe, the pack also includes a Viking-themed outfit, as well as Sunglasses and a Headlamp to keep you ready for any conditions. On top of that, you’ll receive 30 days of access, Advanced License, Premium, 50 Repair Kits, and extra Marker and Navigation Buoys to feel prepared for brutal northern fishing from the very start.
New Saltwater Terminal Tackles
Experiment with a fresh lineup of saltwater gear now available in the in-game Store. Light up the depths with Torches, Saltwater Glowing Mono Lines and Braids. Stay prepared with Colorful Fluorocarbon and Steel Leaders. Tungsten™ Saltwater Sinkers add extra weight, helping your rigs reach the bottom faster. Try the new Saltwater Golden Hooks, designed to work with a wide range of baits, including Atlantic Herring, Lesser Sand Eel, Atlantic Mackerel Cut Baits, Bluey, Seal Blubber, Ragworms, Black Lugworms, Peeler Crab, and Razor Shell.
You’ll also find a bunch of new Saltwater Softbaits, including Baby Halibut, Glowing Squid, Twisters, and Slugs, that can be paired with Saltwater Jigheads, making them perfect for vertical jigging and trolling.
New Inventory Sorting System
As Fishing Planet keeps growing and new gear arrives with every update, managing your Inventory should feel easier. This update introduces new Inventory Sorting Filters. Each Inventory category now comes with its own filter options, letting you sort items exactly the way you want. Organize your gear by name, level, hook size, weight, line capacity, durability, and more — with sorting options tailored to each category.
You can also switch between ascending and descending order, hide or show subgroups, and keep everything clean and easy to navigate. Large inventories are now far more comfortable to handle. Expand or collapse item groups with a single click and jump straight to what you need — no more endless scrolling. This is just the first step of our ongoing Inventory rework, with more improvements planned for future updates.
A Living Ecosystem and Immersion
Skårland Fjord feels more alive thanks to locals living in the area, and active wildlife including seals, dolphins and orcas regularly appearing in the water around you. The weather adds to the atmosphere, bringing long daylight hours, bright white nights, and a sky that’s constantly changing. Calm, cloudy days can quickly shift into powerful storms with rough seas, lightning and thunder, and snowfall. And when conditions are just right, the northern lights may appear, turning an ordinary fishing trip into something truly memorable.
Rough Waters Zones
Brace yourself for Rough Water Zones, where the waves rise and you’ll need to slow down. You’ll get a notification as you approach these areas, and the HUD icon will change to let you know you’ve entered waters where extra caution is needed.
Repair Kits
A long-awaited quality-of-life improvement is here: you can now repair items without equipping them from your character. Simply click the Wrench icon next to an item and confirm — fast, clean, and hassle-free.
We’re also introducing a brand-new feature — Repair Kits. Long fish fights and constant pressure can wear down even the toughest gear, and now you have a way to stay in the action without interruptions. Repair Kits let you fix your equipment right on the waterway, without returning to the Global Map or unequipping your setup — even during Competitions, Tournaments, or Fishing Together sessions. And for Premium SE series items, repairs are possible even after they’ve been fully broken. You’ll be able to repair any item in your Inventory with a single click, whenever you need it. In case you run out of the kits, you can restock instantly in the Services tab of the Shop.
To give every angler a chance to try out this new feature, we’ve prepared you a gift of 5 Repair Kits. Simply log into the game and visit the Personal Offers tab in the Premium Shop to claim them!
Moreover, you can now earn Repair Kits by completing challenges. You’ll receive 1 Repair Kit for reaching Level III of each of the Line Breaker, Rod Breaker, and Reel Breaker achievements, as well as for completing the third stages of all cleaning challenges that require reeling in underwater items across all waterways.
Monster Missions
Dive into new Monster Missions! This time the Brave Angler is called in to help local residents deal with the Fenrivores and the chaos these creatures left behind. At this point you can choose whether you want to fish the monster solo or with friends.
Beyond that, you’ll also take part in the mysterious Helgaflut ritual — but its true purpose is something you’ll discover in the game.
Missions, Competitions and Achievements
Put your skills to the test in 5 Competitions and unlock 14 brand-new Achievements. Take on numerous Exploring, Collecting, Mastering, and Fishing Together missions to sharpen your angling skills, enjoy the journey, and earn useful rewards that will carry your fishing saga deeper into the fjord.
We’ve also made a few improvements in the Competitions UI: simplified entering competitions by introducing a unified interface, whether a player is registered in one competition or multiple ones. Now, when you get a Competition Start Window now allows the following:
1. If you’re on another waterway and click on Start, you will be transferred to the Global Map so as to make sure you have all the needed equipment for the competition and then join it on the waterway.
2. If you’re already on the Global Map, the window will take you directly to the competition waterway, or you can just close it if you are still making preparations in the Inventory.
3. If you’re already on the competition waterway, you’ll enter the competition immediately.
We’ve also added a new Finish Competition button, allowing you to leave a competition at any time if you don’t wish to continue. Along with that, we made several small adjustments to make the overall experience clearer and more comfortable. This is just the first iteration of the updated Competitions UI, and we plan to keep improving it—so feel free to share your feedback on these changes.
Bug Fix for Multiple Issues
As usual, big releases bring a lot of fixes for the issues that’s been resolved before and had to be delivered to the live servers.
One important improvement we’d like to highlight concerns how large fish are displayed. Previously, after catching a fish, it would appear on the grip with the usual keep/release and photo mode options. However, for very large fish this often looked unrealistic, with the fish's head filling most of the screen and causing visual issues. To solve this, large catches will now be shown directly in the character’s hands, skipping the grip stage for a more visually clean presentation.
Here’s what’s been fixed, resolved and improved.
Boats, Yachts & Water Behavior
1. Resolved an issue where boat speed dropped during trolling when captains switched at higher speeds.
2. Addressed cases where yachts could be throttled to 100% while anchored with rods cast out.
3. Fixed different liners position for captain and guests after time forward.
4. Resolved an issue where an anchored yacht would shake excessively after colliding with cruise liners.
5. Fixed an issue where player physics could break if the captain teleported to a buoy when another player’s rod was cast.
6. Eliminated cases where speed indicators did not properly reflect engine state after reconnecting in Fishing Together.
7. Corrected wave direction so it now properly matches wind direction at the Maldives location when the wind changes.
8. Prevented wave direction changes after modifying Ocean Water settings.
9. Ensured wave height now properly reacts to Low and Medium Ocean Water settings.
10. Fixed missing wave height changes on freshwater locations.
Fishing, Fish Behavior & Gear
11. Fixed fish stuck on rocks, floating in the air, or flying after collisions. Resolved cases where fish could become tired while the player was in the menu
12. Fixed situations where fish caught and taken into hands could cause disconnects.
13. Corrected float bobbers so they stay properly connected to the line during wave movement.
14. Addressed an issue where floats did not react to waves at the Kaiji No Ri Torii No Koto pin.
15. Corrected grip positioning when a fish is hooked during Photo Mode.
16. Prevented leader length from resetting after changing rods when moving between local and global maps.
17. Fixed incorrect overweight warnings for the X-Large Spod when its weight was within limits.
18. Adjusted rod stand behavior so rods no longer appear floating after height changes.
19. Now groundbait mixes can be used on boats and yachts.
20. Fixed incorrect lure and bait visuals after interaction with underwater items.
21. Corrected partially transparent Gudgeon fish visuals.
Camera, Photo Mode & Visuals
22. Improved camera behavior to prevent full rotation when looking down and pressing L3.
23. Fixed lighting disappearing when rotating the camera in Photo Mode.
24. Addressed broken camera flyovers on St. Croix after competitive activities.
25. Corrected cases where the sky changed unexpectedly on San Joaquin Delta.
26. Removed unintended fog appearing when using a flashlight right after time forward at night.
27. Eliminated ocean water occasionally glowing with an unnatural acidic color at Maldives.
28. Improved fish radar visuals on the Chamaeleon yacht, reducing overly bright backgrounds.
29. Fixed factory pipes disappearing at Sander Baggersee Lake.
UI, HUD & Controls
30. Adjusted overlapping UI elements, including context menu “Options” overlapping layouts, hint text overlapping the compass on yachts, and extra “X” button appearing in Buy Licenses and Profile windows.
31. Corrected level and rank text placement in send gift windows.
32. Fixed scrollbar and profile display issues when using a gamepad.
33. Resolved cases where the zoom stopped working correctly on the Globe.
34. Corrected incorrect controller action naming for “Toggle Pitch Cast.”
35. Fixed the “Space” button label not updating properly when switching to gamepad.
36. Removed duplicated “Item Info” hints appearing across inventory tabs.
37. Corrected a typo in the Template Receiving window.
38. Improved search behavior so player names with underscores (_) are no longer skipped.
Chat, Social & Profile
39. Prevented chat messages from disappearing after extended fishing sessions.
40. Fixed freezes when switching rooms via the chat menu.
41. Resolved freezes and disconnects when captains opened other players’ profiles while the yacht was moving. Corrected issues where player options differed depending on whether profiles were opened via friends list or search.
42. Fixed cases where “Confirm” and “Decline” buttons became inactive after searching for a player who sent a friend request.
43. Ensured leaderboards no longer show players with missing profiles.
44. Addressed cases where profile windows closed unexpectedly when viewing fish in 3D.
45. Here is a joke for those who read release notes all the way through: What do you call a vegetarian Viking? - Nor-vegan!
Competitions, Tournaments & Missions
46. Corrected desynchronization between competition start times and their status.
47. Prevented competitions from appearing on incorrect calendar days.
48. Addressed an issue where competition details did not open on double-click.
49. Fixed incorrect scoring behavior after disconnects in qualifiers.
50. Ensured fish caught from boats after disconnects now properly count toward tournament and competition scoring.
51. Corrected background layering in the “Time Is Up” tournament window.
52. Fixed Fishing Together Monster Mission progression where the host’s task counter was not updating when guests caught fish.
Audio & Environment
53. Removed continuous casting sounds heard from other players in Fishing Together sessions.
54. Fixed seagull sounds incorrectly playing on the Amazon location.
Stability & Miscellaneous
55. Addressed random crashes and unexpected disconnects.
56. Fixed cases where the game remained paused for guests after extending pond stay.
57. Ensured loading screen tips now rotate correctly and are no longer skipped.

Hey Anglers,We’ve just released a small hotfix to address a few issues that appeared after the latest bug-fix patch. We know console players are eagerly waiting for the Norway Update, and we want to reassure you that the PlayStation release date will be announced within the next several days. Thank you for bearing with us.There’s also one important detail we unfortunately missed in the previous patch notes, related to competitions. Some of you may have noticed that the ratings column has disappeared. Please don’t worry - this is expected behavior, not a bug. As part of our work on a new matchmaking and rating system, this temporary change was necessary. The ratings column will return once the new feature is released, your rating won’t be lost, and points that you are gaining right now ace all calculated and saved. Here’s what’s been addressed in this patch:1. Resolved an issue where hint messages were repeatedly displayed at the top of the screen.2. Fixed an issue with an unresponsive window that appeared when a player with the maximum number of marker buoy slots received a shared marker buoy.3. The float now correctly bounces on waves on Torii No Koto pin in Japan.4. Addressed a missing personal record message after catching a huge fish on the Valkyrie boat.5. Adjusted the minimum trophy weight for Atlantic Saury, as the maximum weight of the common fish form exceeded the minimum trophy weight, to keep fish weight ranges consistent within the same location.6. Fixed ice and Greenland Shark animation issues in the Sharkology mission.7. Corrected glasses visibility on characters in Photo Mode.8. The sound effect for putting glasses on and taking them off has been corrected. We appreciate your reports and support as we continue to improve the game. Your feedback plays a huge role in making the experience better for all anglers.Tight Lines!

Hello!!!
It's not so sweet!
After the latest update, the game no longer recognizes the lures needed for the "Night Hunt in Saltwater: Trolling" mission.
The last lure recognized by the game is the "Glowing Trolling Octopus 230g. #14/0."
Heavier lures and lures with larger hooks are not recognized by the game as "Glowing Trolling Octopus."Hi, thanks for your report, I passed it over to the team, we will investigate it and fix it

Hey Anglers,
Step into the frosty beauty of Skårland Fjord, Norway – a winter fishing destination where stunning icy landscapes hide some of the most rewarding bottom fishing experiences in the game.
To welcome the launch together with our amazing community, we’ve prepared a free Shark Cap and 5 Repair Kits just for you. All players, regardless of level, can head to the Personal Offers Tab and claim these fin-tastic presents, but only for a limited time, so don’t miss out!
Now, let's discover what’s new in this update!

Hey Anglers,
In our previous DevDiaries, you’ve already wandered through the majestic fjords and met the fish species that rule these icy waters. But the North is never gentle — and the fish that live here are as fierce as the sea itself. To face them, you need gear that doesn’t just survive the conditions, but matches their strength and spirit. You know better than anyone how exhausting a long fight with a true sea-beast can be. That’s why the equipment in this update is crafted to stand firm in the cold, endure the struggle, and rise to any challenge these waters dare to throw at a Brave Angler like you.
You’ll also learn about several quality-of-life improvements coming with this update — new Inventory Sorting, easier ways to repair your gear, and more.
So let’s dive into everything that’s coming your way!
With Skårland Fjord, we’re excited to introduce several new equipment brands to Fishing Planet. You’ll soon get to know Njörinvik™, inspired by rugged Nordic engineering; AquaVolt™, built around state-of-the-art electric technologies; and Tungsten™, a new premium brand specializing in high-performance terminal tackle.
And with good reason — some of the new species in this location can reach up to 700 kg. To take on such giants, Electric Rods and Reels will finally make their debut in the game. We’re adding two entirely new equipment categories: Electric Saltwater Bottom Casting Rods and Electric Saltwater Casting Reels. As you may have seen in the previous DevDiary, this waterway is largely designed for bottom fishing — and this powerful new gear is built precisely for that challenge. It enables anglers to withstand extreme loads and battle massive deep-sea predators, reeling them up from the depths with confidence and control.
Saltwater Bottom Casting E-Rods
Saltwater Bottom Casting E-Rods are made specifically for electric reels, so they can handle the kind of pressure that regular rods just aren’t built for. They’re thicker, stronger, and not as flexible at the top, which gives them more backbone when you’re reeling heavy fish in, like a Greenland Shark, from deep water.
Their action is more power-focused, keeping the rod steady when the electric reel starts pulling the line. With that kind of force, a normal rod would wear down fast — that’s why these are fitted with metal roller guides. The handle and butt section are also reinforced, so you can safely place the rod into a rod holder or lock it into an electric reel station without worrying.
Sigma F™
Compact and effortlessly easy to handle, Sigma F™ is the go-to saltwater bottom casting E-ROD for casual fishing. It offers a carbon-composite blank that delivers smooth action and great feel when targeting ocean predators. The fluorescent tip enhances bite detection in low light, giving you a visual edge when fishing after dark. Equipped with SmartClick®, the reel mounts in one seamless motion with instant power and data activation. The built-in VoltSnap® charging system maximizes efficiency, keeping your rod charged and ready with minimal downtime.

Chillarc™
Chillarc™ is a saltwater bottom casting E-ROD made of responsive carbon-composite blank that offers excellent sensitivity and controlled flex. Equipped with the CoreCharge® integrated battery system, Chillarc™ delivers clean, uninterrupted power to your E-REEL directly through the handle. VoltSnap® charging tech keeps the internal system cool and efficient, minimizing downtime between sessions.
PulseWave™
PulseWave™ is a saltwater bottom casting E-ROD that features a CoreCharge® system inside the handle to power your E-REEL directly, maintaining a balanced setup even during intense battles. With SmartClick® direct-mount tech, the reel snaps into place in one smooth motion, activating power and data transfer. Reinforced by TorqueArc® architecture, PulseWave™ keeps its shape under stress, distributing force evenly and preventing torsion.
Saltwater Casting E-Reels
Electric reels are made to take the physical strain out of deep-sea fishing. With one button, the reel can pull the line in automatically, saving you from constant manual reeling. It’s a huge advantage when you’re fighting deep-water species, dealing with powerful fish, or simply don’t want to burn your hands and stamina on every catch.
The reel shows its full potential when paired with an E-Rod. You get two modes: manual, which works like a regular reel, and electric, which handles the lifting for you. Once you hook a fish, the electric mode kicks in and starts reeling automatically making long, exhausting battles much easier to win.
Glacion™
Glacion™ is a compact electric casting reel designed for delivering quiet precision and reliable control. Glacion™ features the EnergySaver® intelligent power system, which automatically reduces energy use during idle moments, extending battery life. SubZero® thermal system protects internal components from cold-induced voltage drops, ensuring smooth, uninterrupted operation in any climate.

Arcspark 2W™
Arcspark 2W™ electric casting reel features a reinforced aluminum frame and high-capacity motor that deliver smooth, consistent power. With QuickSync® magnetic alignment and marine-grade connectors, setup is fast and secure, providing instant integration with your E-ROD system. During long fights or under heavy load, StrainGuard® automatically adjusts torque output to prevent overheating and reduce stress on internal components.
AmperDrive X™
AmperDrive X™ is a high-performance electric casting reel with a powerful motor that seamlessly switches between speed and torque modes on the fly. QuickSync® ensures fast, secure docking with your E-ROD via magnetic alignment and sealed connectors. StrainGuard® regulates output in real time to prevent overloads, while SubZero® thermal insulation keeps performance stable in cold conditions. With an intuitive LCD and full integration, AmperDrive X™ delivers unmatched control for serious deep-sea anglers.

Saltwater Spinning Rods
You’ve already used Saltwater Spinning Rods before, but those were designed specifically for trolling and were therefore longer. Now we’re introducing versions built especially for vertical jigging, where the lure is worked directly beneath the boat in an up-and-down motion. These rods are generally shorter, with a highly responsive blank and a reinforced tip, allowing for sharp, repetitive vertical movements—perfect for lifting and dropping heavy jigs with precision.
Midgard™
Midgard™ is a spinning rod designed for inshore and medium-action fishing with the backbone needed for vertical jigging. Built on a responsive graphite blank, it offers the perfect balance of sensitivity and control. StrikeCap® reinforcement at the tip absorbs impact from aggressive strikes and sudden hooksets, protecting the blank from stress fractures. The StødigFoam® non-slip handle coating ensures steady control in all weather, providing all-day comfort whether you're casting from shore or boat.
Asgard™
Asgard™ is a high-performance spinning rod perfectly suited for vertical jigging and dominating deep-water predators. Built on an ultra-dense carbon composite blank, it balances strength with refined sensitivity for luring predators from the depths. The BergRygg® reinforced backbone channels lifting power through the core, reducing mid-section flex during aggressive hook-ups. Frostbind® multi-layer coating protects joints and guides from salt, corrosion, and harsh temperature swings.
Saltwater Spin Reels
Lokasenna™
Lokasenna™ is a versatile spinning reel designed for inshore and medium saltwater action. Its ArmorFrame-X® integrated aluminum frame delivers a solid and stable gear foundation, maintaining alignment under pressure. SnurrBalanse® rotor architecture reduces rotational mass for smoother start-up and less fatigue during high-speed retrieves, making it ideal for long casting sessions.

Ragnarök™
Ragnarök™ is a next-gen spinning reel built for extreme strength and relentless performance. Its MonoForge® one-piece aluminum frame eliminates flex under pressure, delivering unmatched rigidity and torque during heavy retrieves. The ZeroSlip® instant anti-reverse system, anchored directly to the pinion gear, delivers lightning-fast hook-setting power with zero backplay, giving you full control during high-speed strikes.

New Inventory Sorting
As the game expands and dozens of new items arrive with every new waterway, your Inventory inevitably grows too — and we know it has become harder to navigate. That’s why it’s time to begin reworking the system to make managing your gear simpler and more comfortable. With this update, we’re introducing new Inventory Sorting Filters.
Each category in your Inventory will now have a filter icon next to it, allowing you to choose exactly how you want the items in that category to be displayed. This gives you more control, faster navigation, and a cleaner, more intuitive experience when organizing your equipment.
You can group your items by Name, Level, Hook Size, Weight, Line Capacity, Durability and so on - the available sorting options will differ depending on the category, showing only the parameters relevant to the items within that category. You can also choose whether to sort items in ascending or descending order, and show or hide Subgroups if you want.
You can also expand and collapse item groups with a single click. Just tap the arrow next to any subcategory, and the inventory will unfold to show everything inside that group. Tap it again, and the section neatly closes back up. It’s a simple way to navigate large inventories without scrolling through endless lists.
We hope the new Inventory Sorting improvements will enhance your experience and help you better organize your equipment. This is the first phase of our ongoing Inventory rework, and additional improvements are planned for future updates.
Jigging Lures
Saltwater Softbaits
Softbaits are trending among anglers who value adaptable fishing techniques. They are made from soft, flexible materials like plastic, silicone or rubber, designed to mimic the appearance and movement of real baitfish, worms, or insects. They are often used with a weighted hook called a jighead.
Glowing Squid
This squid-shaped softbait glows from the inside, mimicking the natural bioluminescence to attract predators like Halibut. Its lifelike swimming action and realistic profile make it especially effective in deep or murky waters. The glowing body creates a strong visual signal, drawing in fish from a distance. Crafted from durable materials, it's built to withstand repeated strikes and harsh conditions, offering reliable performance and super appeal to any predator.

Baby Halibut
This soft bait Halibut features a wide belly that adds extra wobble and vibration, instantly drawing the attention of nearby predators. The twin long tails stir the water with every twitch, delivering a smooth, flexible swimming action that mimics real prey. Crafted from high-toughness, eco-friendly PVC, it's both durable and safe for the environment. With realistic 3D eyes and detailed scale texture, this lure looks incredibly lifelike in the water, making it a go-to for tempting picky predators.

Twisters
This saltwater jigging lure is built to target massive ocean predators like Halibut and Cod. Its shape delivers ultra-realistic movement, even at slow retrieval speeds. The slim profile ensures a fast sink rate, while the wide tail adds a natural wobble that triggers strikes. Glitter-infused paint creates lifelike flashes underwater, boosting visibility in deep or murky conditions. Ideal for both slow and active jigging action.

Saltwater Slug
Designed to mimic a sand eel, a favorite prey for many bottom-dwelling fish, this long, slender soft bait delivers a super natural swimming action. It features a flexible body and a subtle tail that creates lifelike motion, perfect for tempting Halibut, Cod, and other saltwater hunters. Made from durable soft plastic, this Saltwater Slug is ideal for both casting and vertical jigging.

Saltwater Jigheads
This saltwater jighead is perfect for rigging soft baits when targeting aggressive predators. Its streamlined shape helps it sink fast and stay stable, even in strong currents. The screw-lock keeper near the hook shank secures soft baits firmly in place, preventing slippage during aggressive strikes or long retrieves. Ideal for rigging with saltwater soft lures, it offers a strong, reliable hold and excellent control when targeting bottom-dwelling predators like halibut or cod.
Built heavy for deep drops and strong currents, it offers excellent stability and control during your retrieve. The jighead includes reinforced bait keepers near the hook to securely hold soft lures in place, even under aggressive strikes. Ideal for pairing with saltwater soft baits.

Pilkers
Nordic Pilker
A classic Scandinavian oblong jigs, designed specifically for fishing in the cold northern waters of the Norwegian Sea and North Atlantic. Their shape creates a fluttering or darting action, copying the motion of a wounded fish and attracting predators. With the low center of gravity, they are well-suited for vertical jigging and typically come rigged with a single treble hook at the tail.

Nordic Banana Pilker
Nordic Banana Pilker is an improved, reimagined version of the classic Nordic Pilker. Its unique shape creates a fluttering or darting action that mimics a wounded fish, drawing the attention of predators. With a low center of gravity, it's ideal for deepwater vertical jigging and typically comes rigged with a single treble hook at the tail.

Fish Pilker
A metal pilker with a baitfish profile and a rainbow-reflective finish that flashes brightly underwater. It creates strong vibration and visual appeal on the drop, drawing attention even in deeper or murky waters. Equipped with two sharp single hooks on leaders and a lifelike tail fin for strike-triggering movement.

Terminal Tackle
Torches
A torch is a luminous teaser for bottom setups, designed to attract predators in deep, dark waters where light barely reaches. Its bright, steady glow draws the attention of curious hunters from afar. At depths where visibility is limited, this luminous signal becomes a key trigger, turning passive predators into active biters.

Colorful Fluorocarbon Leaders
Bright fluorescent leaders that remain visible for anglers even in dark or murky saltwater, making it easier to track your rig and trigger strikes from curious predators. Built to withstand abrasion, salt, and toothy fish, they're perfect for tough fights in demanding conditions.

Steel Leaders
Made from tough steel wire, these leaders are built to handle aggressive, sharp-toothed fish. Their rigid construction resists bite damage and abrasion, making them a reliable choice for high-stress saltwater predator fishing.
Saltwater Glowing Mono Lines
This mono line is crafted from high-performance materials that provide long-lasting durability. Its deep red color fades underwater, taking advantage of the natural light spectrum to stay less visible. Harder for fish to spot, it creates a more natural presentation and improves your chances of getting more bites.
Saltwater Glowing Braids
This four-strand braided line offers a smooth, round profile that cuts through the water quickly. The near-zero stretch lets you feel even the lightest bite, while the high-strength PE fibers resist abrasion. A special color-lock coating prevents fading and protects against UV damage, keeping the line bright and reliable over time.
Saltwater Golden Hooks
These hooks are crafted by Tungsten™, a brand known for premium terminal tackle. A round heavy-duty hook designed for long, secure fights. Equipped with side barbs that lock the catch firmly in place, making it much harder for the fish to shake loose during intense, drawn-out battles.

Saltwater Sinkers
These solid cylindrical sinkers are produced by Tungsten™. They help your rig cut through waves and stay put in strong currents. Their shape reduces snagging on rocky seabeds, making them a great choice for saltwater bottom fishing.

Baits
No fishing journey is complete without the right bait. The waters of the Norwegian Sea are home to creatures that can be downright brutal. To match their temperament, we’re introducing a new selection of baits crafted for deep-water predators and the sharp-toothed giants with options like Atlantic Herring, Lesser Sand Eel, Atlantic Mackerel Cut Baits, Bluey, Seal Blubber, Ragworms, Black Lugworms, Peeler Crab, and Razor Shell.

For live bait, we’ve added Atlantic Herring and Lesser Sand Eel — both common in the region and well-known to local predators. Herring has that oily flesh and bright flash underwater that big fish senses instantly, while Sand Eel moves just the way northern bottom-feeders expect, making it an easy and familiar target. Together, they cover everything from mid-water hunters to deep-bottom species, giving you reliable bait that actually matches what these fish see every day.
The prepared options such as Atlantic Mackerel Cut Baits and Bluey provide tough, oily chunks that create a strong scent trail for Flatfish, Norway Seaperch, European Angler, Spiny Dogfish, and European Sea Sturgeon.

We’re also adding a range of natural baits that are widely used in northern saltwater fishing. Seal Blubber, Ragworms, Black Lugworms, Peeler Crab, Razor Shell – these are things local predators feed on every day, so they react to them quickly and predictably. And if you’re an angler who loves targeting sharks, Seal Blubber is a must-try bait — it’s one of their absolute favorites.

Repair Kits
Even the strongest gear can only take so much when the North decides to test you. Long fights, heavy tension, and deep-water pressure will wear down any setup eventually — no matter how well it’s built. To make sure your gear stays with you through every battle, we’re introducing a new feature: Repair Kits.
These kits are a special set of tools that let you fix your equipment right on the waterway, without returning to the Global Map or having to unequip your setup — even during Competitions, Tournaments, or Fishing Together sessions. And for Premium SE series items, you can repair them even after they’ve been fully broken.
Just take a few Repair Kits with you on your trip, and you’ll be able to fix any item in your Inventory with a single click whenever needed. If you happen to run out, you can always buy more right away in the Services tab of the Shop.
One more quality-of-life improvement many players have been waiting for is now here: after this update, you’ll be able to repair items without equipping them from your Character or from the setups in your slots. When you're on the Globe and need to repair an item, simply click the Wrench icon next to it and confirm the repair — everything will be done in a second, and your items will remain exactly where they were.

Valkyrie Fishing Boat
To make your time at sea even more productive, Valkyrie boat now features three rod holders per angler, allowing all four players on board to fish with multiple rods at once. This significantly increases how much you can catch within the same amount of time. Just like on the Chamaeleon Catamaran, Valkyrie’s rod holders are fully adjustable — you can tilt them up or down and rotate them left or right to position each rod exactly the way you want.
Your catch will now stay fresh much longer thanks to the brand-new, fish-friendly refrigerated storage system. It preserves the quality of every fish you keep, increasing its selling value. When you’re fishing from the Valkyrie and using its top-tier refrigerated storage, you’ll receive a substantial bonus of plus 20% Credits and 20% XP for every fish you land. And with the ability to use four rods at once, you’ll be amazed at how quickly you can level up.
Something we’ve already mentioned in our previous DevDiary, and our personal favorite feature of this boat, is the new heavy-fish crane, which takes the Photomode experience to a whole new level. Once your catch exceeds a certain weight, you’ll be able to use the crane to lift it aboard and capture stunning photos of the giants you’ve landed. And the best part is that you don't necessarily have to be the owner of the boat - all the guests in the Fishing Together sessions can use it for their big catches as well.
Another cool feature of this boat, especially useful for Norway's location, is that it stays stable and doesn’t lose speed in Rough Water Zones. And with the way Valkyrie can break ice and cut through high waves, we’re confidently moving through all development obstacles toward releasing Skårland Fjord in Fishing Planet. Stay tuned — the release is coming very soon.
Tight lines!

Hey Anglers,
The journey continues north, into the cold and powerful waters of the Norwegian Sea. This region offers a completely different type of fishing challenge compared to tropical destinations. Deep basins, steep underwater slopes, rocky shelves, and strong currents create an environment dominated by heavy bottom rigs, deep-water tactics, and careful, methodical fishing.
Did you know that Norway is the world’s second-largest seafood exporter? Norwegian fish is shipped to more than 150 countries, and every single day enough seafood leaves Norway to feed 40 million people around the world.
Skårland Fjord will bring 25 cold-water species to Fishing Planet; all the fish at the location will be completely new to the game. And if you count every form and variation, the location will feature a total of 79 fish to discover.
Let’s dive into what’s coming!
Toothy Trio
We know sharks are a favourite among many of you, so we made sure to include a few in these icy waters. These predators are capable of breaking leaders and overpowering poorly matched setups, offering intense and highly rewarding encounters, with significant experience and profit gains.
But before we get to sharks, we must admit that although our Brave Angler may be strong enough to hoist even the biggest giants for a photo, some catches deserve a bit of extra help. It’s finally time to bring a more realistic touch to your fishing experience. The Valkyrie boat will come equipped with a powerful crane that lets you lift massive fish with ease and display them for stunning shots of your haul.
All fish that weigh more than 150 kg will be hung on the crane when using the Valkyrie boat.
Greenland Shark
Greenland Shark (Somniosus microcephalus) is a true deep-ocean leviathan of the Arctic, capable of growing over 4.5 meters long and weighing up to 700 kg. With a lifespan that can exceed 400 years, it’s one of the longest-living vertebrates on the planet. This slow-moving predator prowls the icy depths of the North Atlantic, often between 200 and 2,000 meters, far from shore.

Despite its sluggish nature, the Greenland Shark is an opportunistic feeder with a surprisingly varied diet. It feeds on cod, squid, crustaceans, and even seals. Greenland Sharks are notoriously elusive and rarely take bait, making them an almost mythical target for deep-sea anglers.Porbeagle Shark
Porbeagle Shark (Lamna nasus) is a fast open-ocean predator native to the cold waters of the North Atlantic. Reaching up to 3 meters in length and weighing around 200 kilograms, it inhabits depths of 200–250 meters along continental shelves and thermal fronts.
This species thrives in rough waters, where it hunts fast-moving prey such as mackerel, herring, and cod. With its muscular body, the Porbeagle Shark is capable of explosive bursts of speed and long, sustained chases through frigid waters. It is one of the most prized trophies of the northern seas.
Spiny Dogfish
Spiny Dogfish (Squalus acanthias) is a small but sharp-toothed shark that roams the cold waters of the North Atlantic, often at depths of 50 to 150 meters. Usually measuring just over a meter and up to 10 kg, it’s a common but worthy catch for anglers targeting predators near rocky bottoms and underwater ridges. True to its name, the Spiny Dogfish is distinguished by two sharp spines: one in front of each dorsal fin, which it uses for defense. Dogfish feed on herring, cod, flatfish, shrimp, and bottom-dwelling invertebrates. Though not massive, they’re fast, slippery, and armed with sharp teeth, so strong leaders are a must. Quiet presentation and patience are key when targeting this cautious hunter of the deep.
Iconic All-Stars
When people think of Norwegian fishing, Atlantic Salmon is usually the first species that comes to mind. And it’s no surprise, since it’s famous everywhere and often feels like Norway’s signature fish. But anyone who loves casting a line knows that Norway’s waters are full of other species that are just as interesting and just as iconic.
Norway Atlantic Salmon
Norway Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) is found in fast-flowing rivers and cold coastal waters. It’s a prized catch and a proud symbol of Norwegian fishing tradition. Most Norway Atlantic Salmon weigh around 5-7 kg, though some giants reach up to 50+ kg. Salmon can be caught in many ways, but in open coastal waters, trolling tends to give the best results. Their diet includes small fish like herring and sardines, shrimp, and insect larvae. But despite their appetite, Norway Atlantic Salmon are sharp-eyed and cautious. To succeed, anglers need delicate, nearly invisible rigs and precise lure presentation.
Sea Trout
Sea Trout (Salmo trutta) is a prized coastal predator in Norway, often found in the cool waters of fjords, river mouths, and along the shore. Known for its agility and strength, it’s a favorite target for anglers seeking fast, action-packed fights. Most Sea Trout weigh up to 5 kg, but large individuals can reach up to 20 kg. During feeding migrations, this species becomes especially responsive to trolling. Sea Trout feed on sprats, herring, sardines, shrimp, and aquatic insects. But catching one takes more than just the right bait, thanks to their excellent vision and sharp instincts, light, subtle rigs and precise presentation are key.
Arctic Char
Arctic Char (Salvelinus alpinus) is a cold-water predator found in Norway’s highland lakes, coastal rivers, and fjords. With an average weight around 5 kg, some specimens can reach over 10 kg. Though often associated with freshwater, Arctic Char sometimes follows the baitfish out to sea, making it a surprising yet welcome catch in coastal trolling. Arctic Char feeds on small fish, insect larvae, and invertebrates, reacting well to both live bait and artificial lures. While not the easiest catch, it's a rewarding one for those who enjoy technical, focused fishing in crisp northern waters.
Atlantic Herring
Atlantic Herring (Clupea harengus) is a schooling fish commonly found in Norway’s coastal waters, fjords, and open Atlantic shallows. Most Atlantic Herring measure around 30 cm and weigh up to 500 g, though rare giants can reach over 1 kg. It travels in dense, fast-moving shoals, feeding on zooplankton and small fish. Herring are typically caught at depths between 10 and 200 meters, especially in coastal areas and near river mouths. They respond well to bright, flashing lures that mimic their natural food, such as micro-spoons, silicone imitations of plankton, or small flies.
Atlantic Mackerel
Atlantic Mackerel (Scomber scombrus) is a fast schooling predator found in Norway’s coastal waters and the open sea. It ranges from the surface down to depths of 200 meters. Most individuals weigh up to 1 kg, though some can grow as large as over 3 kg. Atlantic Mackerel feed primarily on planktonic crustaceans such as copepods. They strike hard and fast, making them excellent targets for casting with light spinning gear. Their speed and strength on the hook offer plenty of action, and their flavorful meat is a welcome bonus.
Atlantic Horse Mackerel
Atlantic Horse Mackerel (Trachurus trachurus) is a fast schooling fish commonly found near reefs and underwater structures along the Norwegian coast. Most individuals reach around 35 cm in length and weigh about 400 g, though some can grow up to 60 cm and 2 kg. It typically inhabits sandy bottoms at depths of 100–200 meters but may also appear closer to the surface. Feeding on small fish, shrimp, zooplankton, and worms, Atlantic Horse Mackerel responds well to light spinning, and fast-moving lures. Its quick strikes and lively resistance make it a fun and accessible catch.
The Cod Clan
Cod fishing is not less important in Norway as it has shaped the country for a thousand years. The famous Atlantic cod has been the backbone of Norwegian fishing traditions since the Viking Age. Dried cod was one of the world’s earliest global export products. Cod-like species’ firm, mild-flavoured meat has been trusted in local kitchens for generations, remaining some of the most appreciated catches today.
Atlantic Cod
Atlantic Cod (Gadus morhua) is one of the best-known and most popular fish among anglers in the northern waters. It’s an incredibly important commercial species, valued for its mild flavor and versatile white meat. Usually measuring around a meter, some Atlantic Cod can grow over 1.5 meters and weigh up to 50+ kg. Found along rocky or sandy bottoms at depths of 20 to 200 meters, it feeds on herring, flatfish, worms, mollusks, and crustaceans. Atlantic Cod is active around schools of baitfish and can often be located with a good sonar. Thanks to its wide depth range and willingness to strike both natural and artificial lures, cod fishing is accessible even to beginners.
Haddock
Haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus) is a cold-water bottom dweller from the cod family, often found over sandy or muddy seabeds at depths of 80 to 200 meters. Typically weighing up to 4 kg, large individuals can reach 15+ kg and a full meter in length. A classic catch in the Norwegian Sea, Haddock is prized for its delicate flavor and steady bite. Feeding primarily on bottom-dwelling invertebrates like sea urchins, brittlestars, bivalves, worms, and, occassionaly on small fish, it responds well to both natural bait and mid-size jigs. Easy to target with bottom rigs and simple gear, haddock is an ideal species for beginners and a reliable favorite for seasoned anglers.
Whiting
Whiting (Merlangius merlangus) is a small, schooling fish from the cod family, commonly found throughout the Norwegian Sea. Most catches range from 30 to 50 cm and around 1 kg, though rare specimens can weigh over 3 kg. Whiting is an important commercial species, especially in northern European fisheries. Whiting typically occurs at depths of 30 to 100 meters, where it feeds on small fish, crustaceans, marine worms, and responds well to natural baits and small pilkers. This species is easy to catch, making it a popular target for beginners.
Coalfish
Coalfish (Pollachius virens), also known as a pollock or saithe, is a fast-swimming, schooling predator common in the cold waters of the North Atlantic. Most fish range between 60 and 90 cm, but the biggest specimens can grow over a meter long and weigh up to 30 kg. Found near reefs, rocky slopes, and continental shelves at depths of 50 to 250 meters, Pollock is always on the move, chasing herring, cod, crustaceans, and mollusks. Thanks to its aggressive strikes and high activity levels, pollock is a favorite among sport anglers. It readily hits both natural bait and lures, making it easy to target with bottom rigs or vertical jigging.
Cusk
Cusk (Brosme brosme) is a deep-dwelling member of the cod family, found along the rocky slopes and rough bottoms where rocks, ledges, or gravel are common. Reaching up to over 1 meter in length and up to 20 kg in weight, this bottom-feeder prefers depths over 180 meters. Though not the most aggressive hunter, the cusk feeds steadily on small fish, crustaceans, and mollusks. Its tender white meat has made it a favorite among both commercial and sport anglers.
The Flat Squad
Flatfish are a group of fish known for the way they rest on the seafloor, lying on one side of their flattened bodies. This unique shape helps them blend into the sandy bottom.
Atlantic Halibut
Atlantic Halibut (Hippoglossus hippoglossus) is one of the largest flatfish in the world and the most sought-after trophies in cold northern waters, reaching over 3 meters in length and weighing over 300 kg.
Found in the cold depths of the Norwegian Sea, this powerful bottom-dweller prefers rocky and sandy sea floors commonly at depths of 50 to 300 meters. Its sheer size and strength make it a true trophy catch, demanding heavy tackle and serious patience. Halibut feed on herring, cod, squid, and crustaceans, striking both natural bait and large lures. Hooking one is a test of endurance, but that’s exactly what makes it so thrilling.
Greenland Halibut
Greenland Halibut (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides) is a deep-ocean predator that roams the cold, dark waters of the North Atlantic. Unlike its larger cousin, this halibut prefers extreme depths, often found between 200 and 2000 meters near underwater ridges and canyons. While most catches weigh around 15 kg, some giants can tip the scales at over 40 kg. Feeding on herring, cod, squid, and deepwater crustaceans, it’s a prized catch for bottom fishing enthusiasts. Greenland Halibut is one of the most valuable targets for deep-sea fishing in northern waters, especially off the coast of Norway. Its size and elusive, deepwater habits make it a true challenge for any angler.
Brill
Brill (Scophthalmus rhombus) is a sleek, bottom-dwelling flatfish found along sandy or muddy seafloors commonly at depths up to 100 meters. Though usually up to 3 kg in weight, rare specimens can grow up to a meter and hit 7+ kg. Brill is valued for its delicious meat and is considered a relatively rare catch among anglers. It feeds on worms, crustaceans, mollusks, and small fish, and responds best to bottom rigs with natural bait or soft lures. Brill usually hides along the seafloor, so fishfinders are often used to locate the most promising spots. Its elusive behavior and sensitivity to technique make it a real challenge for anglers.
The Quiet Stars
There are also many other fascinating and highly valued species in Norway that may not be on the top positions in the commercial industry but are highly appreciated by local anglers.
European Sea Sturgeon
European Sea Sturgeon (Acipenser sturio) is one of the largest and rarest fish native to European waters, capable of reaching over 4 meters in length and weighing up to 400 kg. Once widespread, it is now mostly found in select river estuaries and coastal zones of the eastern Atlantic, where it prefers clean, well-oxygenated waters with sandy or gravelly bottoms.
This ancient, bottom-feeding species feeds on small fish, crustaceans, mollusks, and worms. Targeting the European Sea Sturgeon requires heavy-duty gear, strong bottom rigs, and precise bait placement in deep water. Its impressive size, raw strength, and elusive behavior make it a true challenge for experienced anglers.
Meagre
Meagre (Argyrosomus regius), also known as a salmon-bass, is a powerful coastal predator, known for its silvery sheen, impressive size, and hard-fighting nature. Most commonly caught at around up to 20 kg, the largest specimens can grow over 2 meters long and break the 100 kg mark. Meagre thrive in well-oxygenated waters with plenty of food, typically at depths of up to 100 meters. They can occur close to the bottom as well as in surface and mid-waters. Feeding on sardines, cod, shrimp, and mollusks, they respond well to both natural baits and large lures, especially during early morning or evening tides. Meagres are prized in sport fishing not only for their strength but also for their sharp senses, which make fresh bait and quiet presentation essential. They’re targeted using all kinds of techniques: from trolling and spinning to classic bottom rigs.

Atlantic Wolffish
Atlantic Wolffish (Anarhichas lupus) is a fierce-looking bottom dweller known for its strong jaws and appetite for hard-shelled prey. Found near rocky seabeds and underwater cliffs at depths of 20 to 500 meters, this cold-water predator can grow over 1.5 meters long and weigh up to 25 kg. Most catches weigh around 5 kg, but even average-sized ones put up a solid fight. It feeds on crabs, shrimp, hardshell molluscs such as large whelks, cockles, and sea clams, crushing shells with ease thanks to its powerful teeth. Atlantic Wolffish respond well to natural baits and jigging techniques, especially when they move deeper in search of food. In Norway, it’s a favorite among anglers not only for the thrill of the catch but also for its firm, delicious meat.
European Angler
European Angler (Lophius piscatorius), also known as the sea devil, is a deep-ocean predator that lives at depths of 100 to 1000 meters, usually over sandy or muddy bottoms, though it also occurs near rocky areas. This eerie-looking fish uses a fleshy lure on its head to attract unsuspecting prey шшstraight into its enormous mouth. Most Anglers grow up to 1 meter and weigh around 15 kg, but exceptional specimens can grow as large as 2 meters and exceed 50 kg. Adults mainly eat fish, while young ones go after small sea creatures. They’re best caught at night using big baits and bottom rigs, making for a unique and exciting fishing experience.
Common Ling
Common Ling (Molva molva) is a long-bodied predator of the North Atlantic, prized for its flavorful meat and deep-dwelling habits. Reaching up to 2 meters in length and up to 45 kg in weight, ling are typically found at depths between 50 and 500 meters, especially near rocky or sandy bottoms. Feeding on herring, flatfish, crustaceans, and mollusks, they eagerly strike both natural baits and deepwater lures. Ling are especially active during winter and early spring, making them a solid target for bottom fishing or trolling at depth. Hardy and not overly picky, they offer a satisfying challenge for anglers of all skill levels.
European Hake
European Hake (Merluccius merluccius) is a sleek predator found in the deep, cold waters off the Norwegian coast. Typically weighing around 1-3 kg, larger individuals can grow over 1 meter and weigh 10+ kg. Agile and sensitive to changes in water conditions, European Hake prefers and is normally found at depths of between 70 m and 300 m, often staying active at night. Feeding on herring, anchovies, shrimp, and mollusks, it strikes best after sunset and responds well to both natural bait and small, flashy lures. Most commonly targeted using a spinning rod with a jighead and luminous sleeve, or classic bottom rigs, European Hake offers a rewarding challenge for anglers.
Norway Seaperch
Norway Seaperch (Sebastes norvegicus) is a deepwater species of the North Atlantic, easily recognized by its vivid red color and spiny dorsal fin. Most specimens measure around 50 cm, but trophy catches can reach a full meter and weigh up to 15 kg. Found at depths between 100 and 500 meters, this species thrives near rocky slopes and cold, shadowy drop-offs. Feeding on small fish, shrimp, crabs, and squid, seaperch eagerly take both natural bait and deep-diving lures. Their firm, delicate meat makes them a favorite in both commercial fisheries and sport angling.
Atlantic Saury
Atlantic Saury (Scomberesox saurus) is a fast-moving, slender fish that roams the open waters and coastal zones of the North Atlantic. Most individuals weigh around 300 g, though some can reach up to 1 kg. Atlantic sauries live near the surface and are typically found at depths of up to 30 meters. They form schools and often move in sync with seasonal plankton blooms. Feeding on small crustaceans, krill, and fish larvae, Atlantic Saury responds well to fast-moving lures like small pilkers or wobbling plugs. With its speed and energy, saury offers quick, active fishing.

Hey Anglers,
The Norwegian Sea is a place where nature rules with quiet power. Cold northern winds sweep across vast stretches of deep blue water, carrying the scent of salt and frost. The sea is alive here, its surface shifting from silver calm to roaring swells, its air heavy with the sound of gulls and the hum of distant storms. It’s a raw, untamed beauty that defines the spirit of Skårland Fjord, harsh, mysterious, and endlessly captivating.
Warm up with a hot drink, settle in, and join us as we dive into the first DevDiary for the location arriving this winter.
Born of Ice and Wind
Fjords are long, narrow sea inlets carved by ancient glaciers, with steep cliffs and waters that plunge to great depths just a short distance from shore. Cold, oxygen-rich currents, sharp underwater drop-offs, and a unique mix of coastal and deep-sea species make them a paradise for anglers seeking challenging and unforgettable adventures.
As the North brings both beauty and brutality, we’ve built new, rugged boats designed to cut through ice and handle rough, high-wave conditions with ease. These vessels are inspired by the sturdy workboats commonly used by local fishermen in the region.
Ingrid
It’s a sturdy, traditional Norwegian fishing boat built for rough northern waters. With its compact wheelhouse, reinforced hull, and practical working deck, it reflects the no-nonsense style of coastal fishing vessels used across the fjords. Reliable and steady even in harsh weather, Ingrid is perfect for navigating narrow inlets and rocky coastlines.
This boat will be available for rent on the new location, giving every Angler a chance to experience authentic Nordic fishing.
Valkyrie
This powerful, modern Norwegian-style fishing vessel was built to withstand the harshest seas. Its sharp lines, reinforced hull, and spacious deck make it perfect for chasing giant fish across stormy fjords. Its name draws inspiration from the Valkyries of Norse mythology, legendary warriors whose shimmering armor was said to create the northern aurora lights as it reflected the light of the sun and stars.
We’ll reveal more about Valkyrie’s special features in the upcoming DevDiaries, so stay tuned!
Ranvika Marina
Your journey starts in Ranvika Marina, a quiet harbor that hosts all of the weathered fishing vessels coming into the landing. Explore to the west into the majestic beauty of the fjord, tracing its hidden coves, or set a course straight ahead into the open sea.
Skarvika
Another place to start your fishing day is Skarvika - a fishing village set against the raw edge of the Norwegian Sea, with old rorbuer, traditional Norwegian cabins, lining the shore.
While the map has two main starting points, you’ll still find several places to go ashore, explore on foot, and fish in calmer waters. And, as always, there will be missions to complete - a chance to meet the locals and get to know the area better.
Under Northern Skies
While Skårland Fjord is a winter-themed region, its climate in the game reflects the real conditions of late May, a magical time when the midnight sun season begins. Days stretch almost endlessly, and on clear nights you’ll witness the mesmerizing white nights, when the sky never fully darkens and the world feels suspended between day and night.
Expect the full mood of the North. Most days bring shifting clouds with the sun breaking through, but the fjord can turn wild in an instant. You’ll face powerful storms with thunder and lightning, rough seas, icy winds, and sudden bursts of snow.
And when night does fall or the sky dims enough, you may be lucky to see the northern lights. Under the right weather conditions, the aurora will sweep across the sky in shimmering waves of green and violet, turning your fishing trip into an unforgettable spectacle.
Rough Waters Zones
Another new feature Anglers will definitely like is the Rough Water Zones, where the waves rise and you’ll need to slow down a bit. You’ll get a notification as you approach these areas, and the HUD icon will change to let you know you’ve entered waters where extra caution is needed.
But don’t worry, Nordic boats are made for this. You’ll cut through waves and even break ice without losing control.
This is only the beginning of what we’re preparing for Skårland Fjord. We can’t wait to share more in the upcoming DevDiaries and hear your thoughts as we continue shaping this new chapter together.
While you’re waiting for the new location to arrive, don’t miss what’s happening in the game right now. Our Thanksgiving Event is live, and we’ve launched several Black Friday activities: the Japan Odyssey and Ocean Voyager Packs are available with a 30% discount, unlimited licenses and travel costs are up to 60% OFF, and the Around The Planet Twitch Drops campaign is running, letting you earn great fishing items, plenty of Credits and Baitcoins, and even access to 10 mid- and high-level locations, including Japan, just by watching Fishing Planet streams on Twitch.
Thank you for your passion, support, and love for fishing. See you in the fjords again soon!
