Cutthroat Trout

Cutthroat Trout (Oncorhynchus clarkii) is a fish species of the salmon family native to cold-water tributaries of the Pacific Ocean, Rocky Mountains, and Great Basin in North America. This black-spotted game fish is named for its bright-red streaks beneath the lower jaws. Cutthroats usually inhabit shallow rivers with clear water and gravel bottoms as well as clear, cold, moderately deep lakes. Cutthroat Trout average 20 to 23 cm (8 to 9 in) in small streams and 20 to 56 cm (8 to 22 in) in larger rivers and lakes with typical weights of 0.11 to 3.63 kg (0.25 to 8 lb).
