Brook Trout

Brook Trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) is a species of freshwater fish in the salmon family Salmonidae. It is native to rivers of North America, but has also been artificially introduced in Europe and elsewhere. Brook Trout prefer clear water and are usually found in large and small lakes, rivers and streams. The species is dark-green to brown in color, with a distinctive marbled pattern of lighter shades extending across the sides and back to the tail and a reddish belly. Typical lengths of the brook trout vary from 25 to 65 cm (9.8 to 25.6 in), and weights from 0.3 to 3 kg (0.66 to 6.61 lb). The maximum recorded length is 86 cm (34 in) and maximum weight 6.6 kg (15 lb). Brooks have a diverse diet that includes insects, frogs, molluscs, small fish and invertebrates.
