ondry Posted October 3, 2017 Report Posted October 3, 2017 SplakeTrout Splake (Salvelinus fontinalis X Salvelinus namaycush) - this hybrid fish species is a cross of a male Brook Trout and a female Lake Trout that is used as a sport fish in many coldwater lakes and ponds across the US. Splake live longer than other fish of the Salmon family and hardly ever naturally reproduce. Splake are hard to distinguish from Brook Trout in coloration, but tend to have a slight fork in the tail. Splake exhibit higher growth rates than either parent species and usually reach 46 cm (18 in) in length with a weight of up to 5kg, sometimes growing up to 9 kg. Splake feed primarily on minnows and other fish.
