We'll have to agree to disagree, they're rather stupid and easy to catch. When a fish will take a chunk of coloured foam, I don't class them as hard to catch Now, a specimen chub, barbel, roach or crucian - they can be hard to tempt. I do apologise if you copied and pasted the description of the tournament, I can't be bothered to go check the details. I presume the Quanchkin lake qualifier means Buffalo? Or is there a carp population that remains hidden to me 12 months in lol? I may well enter this one, being proficient on both Quanchkin and San Joaquin. I'll watch the vid when I get a chance, as I know you're pretty damn good at these tournaments and competitions Quote

I'll watch the vid when I get a chance, as I know you're pretty damn good at these tournaments and competitions Whilst in Europe it is a favorite species of fish especially in Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Italy, Russia. in North America, would not even eat the last homeless Although it is full of lagoons of the Mississippi River, it can easily be caught in the Great Lakes area as well. The critical situation is in Australia, where they try to stop the expansion of the Carp because its artificial introduction into local waters has caused an ecological disaster (much like a rabbit introduction). The presence of carp was significantly suppressed and even to the disposal of the original fish species so easy or hard to catch is very difficult to judge depends on many factors they are therefore extremely untrustworthy fish, and the fisherman must seek new, more sophisticated ways to catch them. Violentvole Posted September 5, 2018 Report Posted September 5, 2018 Yep, I'm in the UK and fished for carp for many years. I still do on occasion and had magazine articles published until there was nothing left to write about. I still rate them as unintelligent though It is a shame that they are looked down upon by the majority in North America, but attitudes are slowly changing ( I mean no offense whatsoever to my American friends here - kill a carp in the UK and you'll be lynched! ). Australia is a complete and utter shambles, it's actually illegal to return a carp if memory serves. I've seen tons upon tons of carp used as fertiliser, which to us in Europe is the equivalent of the USA stating all large/smallmouth bass must be eradicated. If that can put it into some sort of perspective for those over the pond? But as you say Sabi, the proliferation in Aus due to ideal conditions is kinda wild. My apologies for taking the thread off topic and thank you for answering my question. I wasn't making fun of you, just the fact that thousands of anglers think that carp are indeed intelligent 1 Quote

No. Let me guess, you probably think carp know what lines, leads and hooks are.. Quote
PH_Carpman99 Posted September 5, 2018 Report Posted September 5, 2018 No, I'd tell you to pick it up. What I am saying is there are many types of lures, and if a bit of foam resembles a piece of floating bread to a carp (or any other fish, for that matter) then so be it. Fishing for carp irl I like to keep it simple, light line straight to the hook. Quote

Hate_ful Posted September 5, 2018 Report Posted September 5, 2018 There are many reasons carp are not well received in the USA . The main is they are not native fish and people believe the mess up the ecosystem . They destroy alot of the natural vegetation which causes many problems (alge blooms ) . They spawn late in the year also and are known to destroy other fish spawning beds like walleye ,bass and pan fish. Another problem is they have almost no predators to keep the population under control and they tend to take over some lake. There is a place called the Spillway in Linesville Pennsylvania where carp where so populated ducks would walk on top of the. Kio herpes killed alot of them off but if you google it you might understand . 3 Quote

Violentvole Posted September 6, 2018 Report Posted September 6, 2018 I fully understand and have been aware of the situation regarding carp over there for many years Chris. There are a growing number of people who recognise carp for the sport they offer and fish for them the way we in Europe do and treat them with the respect they deserve. I honestly meant no slight to USA anglers whatsoever - different cultures and different countries and all that. You've actually heard me talk about the daftness of European carp fishing and how revered they are and credited with superhuman intelligence in the past Carpman, my apologies. If you were referring to lure fishing in your original post I missed the reference. I love lure fishing, probably own somewhere around 1,500/2,000. Good thing pike, perch, chub, zander, trout and salmon are dumb too Quote
ScottsAttack Posted September 8, 2018 Report Posted September 8, 2018 If you have a love for carp, then you probably shouldn't watch, but this is for anyone who doesn't already know about the Asian Carp species and how their eating habits (40% of their own body weight per day) threaten the native fish populations in the U.S. And then there's the Great Lakes issue... The Great Lakes are like our Mt. Everest, or Pyramids. They are the largest bodies of freshwater in the world, and that is something North Americans really care about. So in the video you'll even see the military intervene in trying to steer Asian Carp away from Lake Michigan. Apologies if this stuff makes you cringe, but I warned you. 2 Quote
Violentvole Posted September 10, 2018 Report Posted September 10, 2018 Those things are an altogether seperate topic, they are not carp in the traditional sense of the word. I remember seeing a TV show about them on the Mississippi many years ago. But I thought snakeheads were the popular problem these days? Quote
tombomb79 Posted September 11, 2018 Report Posted September 11, 2018 (edited) outside of philly pa along art museum on youtube there are some videos of snakeheads in the schuylkill river. I dont remember if they killed the snakeshead but they are moving into all of are areas and i think they swim in schools ? Edited September 11, 2018 by tombomb79 Quote
mitderplatte Posted September 13, 2018 Report Posted September 13, 2018 Did anyone find a spot for catching the smallmouth buffalo in Louisiana at night yet, and is willing to share? All I can catch is freshwater drum, channel catfish, blue catfish, white perch, and crappie stuff.. 1 Quote
