Bottom feeding

Recommended Posts

So if you are brand new to this bottom feeding and literally have no idea how to set up tackle or how to use it where would one go for advise on this issue. don't really understand how to use the three rod holder either. this whole thing just seems rather confusing

Setting up rod reel and line should be quite simple, just follow the guidelines as you would spinning and float rods strongest to weak (line weakest point) now bottom rods the simplest, pick a leader (weaker than line). Then it comes down to your sinkers, different rods have different weight listed just like a lure weight to spinning/casting rods. The difference between weights are for the type of water your fishing. Same thing for feeders, they also have a weight so your either putting a sinker or a feeder on the line (not both together). So far ingame not much choice so isnt to hard to work out, open feeder - calm water and closed feeder- stronger flowing water, again different sizes for different scenarios. And before i forget to mention leaders lengh is the distance between the sinker/feeder and the bait so a bottom fish would want a smaller leader so the bait stays low but make exeptions for bigger fish and faster flowing water. Finaly for the bottom rod, a bell (optional) self explanatory what its use its however 1 thing i have not worked out yet is if the extra sensative would suit a smaller fish since in terms less sensative irl would be better for big fish since the rod would be bending and shaking easy so wouldnt take much to ring a bell (dev should add more info imo) now for the feeder rod pritty much all has been explained other than the quiver tips (3 colour dots top left side of rod) are different sensitivities like a bell without the sound, different weits tips for different size of fish just keep your eye on the tip moving. As for your chum, as you may of already read in game where all still in the erly stages of whats what and which mix to use, but basically imagine the fish is your customer and they want you to make them a cocktail they like but you have to guestimate exactly what they like. Hope this helps explain in a basic form for you

good advise from kylerobz for sure. but i really think it's easier to find some youtube videos on FP bottom and feeder fishing. i'm not sure if there is some detailing the different set up's specifically or not, but KP Shamino might be a good place to start.

i was totally lost about bottom/feeder fishing too. still learning! but what i did was watch videos where ppl were bottom and feeder fishing. most are pretty good about showing the gear they use. so when they showed the rig they used i wrote it all down(even the rod holders). then i went to the shop and bought what they used for the type of fishing i wanted to do, and the fish i wanted to target. i started with bottom rigs and a rod holder. once i was comfortable with that, i looked into feeders, chum, etc.

as far as rod holders go, to me you kinda have to get one and figure it out as you go. you won't break it! lol all the beeps, and different color flashing lights make sense quickly.

i know the new stuff can seem like there is so much to learn and get overwhelming at first. but honestly once you get started it's not that hard to use. remember: you do NOT have to learn all of it at once! just get a bottom rig and go from there. hope that helps. good luck :)

I haven't seen the whole video, but this seems like a good place to start:

Maybe dont listen to his advice on leader though. Leaders are cheap rods and reels are not let your line snap before your gear

ok silly question, I have set up bottom rods and that was pretty easy. What is a feeder rod and it looks like they aren't meant for bigger fish is this correct? Also a little confused as to when you would use a sinker as opposed to a open/closed feeder.

one would think fp would have instructions on all this or did I just not see them?

Open and closed feeders for chum so if you dont want to use chum or your targeting fish that wont need chum to catch just use your sinker. And from bottom to feeder rods apart from stats vary as all rods do its mainly just the quivertips that are different( end of the rod) apart from that ingame setups the same. Glad to here your sussing it out abit now, many fish will be soon following

you can use the bigger rods like the megga chuber with a feeder although its listed as bottom rod you can still use a feeder on it there is a catfish chum so they are ok for that but mainly feeder rods are for your roach bream tench etc also probably can catch carp on the mega chubber with a feeder but not tried that so cannot verifiy

This may not be the best place for this question, but does it do any good to practice with the feeder fishing at Lonestar since that's a free trip? Wasn't sure if I could try it on the buffalo or not.

Thanks. Just wasn't sure if I'd be wasting time trying for the buffalo. I have literally no real life feeder fishing experience, or on the game.

anytime good luck👍
