ShawnAlan21 Posted February 25, 2019 Report Posted February 25, 2019 I was hoping someone might have some insight on a few rods and reels. I’m new to the site and game but already have been able to level up to 31. Now I have a few nice setups but I’m still looking for a medium heavy/heavy spin setup that can cast real far. I purchased the fp anniversary pack and got the 2 extra heavy spinning setups that can run up to 35 lb. test so Im looking for something a little below those. I’m debating a hornet swarm and Loki setup. Any idea how those perform? Or which models are preferred? By the way, although I want it to be versatile, my whole reason for wanting to play this game was to go striper fishing. So I’d like a rod and reel that makes them a fun fight and not just drag them in too easy. And suggestions? Thanks Quote
Mousaka_H Posted March 5, 2019 Report Posted March 5, 2019 Seems like you have the best already. I personally use both the salmonster setups for bigger fish and I use the Jigwinner 8,10 with a prima with 8 lb test. I bring in unique largemouth bass with that setup because the rod does all the work. Have also brought in 20 lb plus snook and drum. If you are looking for something in the middle of those I’d recommend the Thora or the Loki for rods both real good but be careful of the lure weights these are designed for heavy lures. and for reels can look at the lineglider which is really more for bait because it disables rear drag but works with lures too with not too many bites. Because of this feature when you get a bite the fish is on it sets the hook for you then you can jerk the rod. Took me a while to get used to that. The espira reels are great too they have more drag settings and there is another one I can’t remember the name but it’s light blue and has 8 drag settings as well that is the reel I think you are looking for because of the versatility. Hope this helps. Quote
ShawnAlan21 Posted March 5, 2019 Author Report Posted March 5, 2019 Thanks. I have since already picked up a JigWinner 8’10” with an Espira ML reel, but I took your advice and picked up a prima reel with 9.9 max drag and 8 lb and made a Florida largemouth trip and it was perfect. I’m experimenting it’s several other setups now too. Quote
Mousaka_H Posted March 7, 2019 Report Posted March 7, 2019 Glad to hear it. That’s the best combo and you maximize experience. Also gives you a bit of a challenge. The reel I couldn’t think of if you are looking for the big version is the double punch that can reel in anything including 100 lb gar, beluga, and Wels catfish with right fishing rod. Quote
