richierob Posted June 9, 2020 Report Posted June 9, 2020 Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong for this one? I need to catch the 33lb+ muskie in Michigan with a shad for the Pike Hunt II challenge. I've watched all the youtube videos and tried everything. I've fished every peak time in all weathers, I've fished from the left bank, fished from the right bank, fished from a boat, tried different colour shads with different retrieve styles, different speeds...I feel like I've done everything. At the moment I'm on game day 12 and all I've caught is a handful of common muskies, one trophy and a load of northern pike. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? This is driving me nuts. Quote
PH_Carpman99 Posted June 9, 2020 Report Posted June 9, 2020 Had a similar post in September last year, here is what I typed : I managed to catch a appropriate sized muskie on a 10cm (4 in) grass green shad with a 14g (1/2 oz) X-series 4/0 jighead retrieving at speed 2 (twitching or stop and go should work) at 06:05 am on a Sunny day. Anchored the kayak down the end of the King of green bay peg next to the popular "Pike Alley" lily pads facing north and cast down to the very end area where the fish are regularly splashing on the surface. Hope this helps. GL. Quote
richierob Posted June 9, 2020 Author Report Posted June 9, 2020 Thank you. I've tried all of that...the only thing I haven't tried yet is the combo of kayak and sunny day. If that doesn't work I'll officially give up! Quote
richierob Posted June 9, 2020 Author Report Posted June 9, 2020 UPDATE: So it seems some kind of boat is definitely essential. I'm catching more trophies from a kayak, even though I'm casting to basically the same spot. I just caught one that was 32.9lb...no joke. I feel like crying Quote

If anyone else is having trouble with this mission...GET A BOAT! I don't think it's possible without one. Quote
Darkzena78 Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 I have the same problem in Quanckin lake , i can't catch the Trophy chain Pickarel over 1,5 kg with Shad... i watch some videos of the plase, but nothing, please help me Quote
gvolkhin1 Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 The label on Unique chain pickerel: 57,91; -20,93. X-Series Casting Spoon 21g, #3/0 Weather: sunny, morning Quote
PH_Carpman99 Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 Maybe use a jighead with the hook size around 1/0 - 3/0, add a yellow and red or swamp green shad. Fish during peak time during the daytime. Spawn in at the Pelican Hut spawn point and walk along the boardwalk in the opposite direction of the Tobacco drying shed until just before it ends, there on your left you should see some birds flying up from the water and a channel between the lily pads (there should be a fallen tree trunk to the left), cast down to the end of the channel and try a twitching retrieve near the surface. Sorry it's a bit vague, busy at another waterway ATM. Quote
