Developer’s Diaries: Marron River, Bolivia

Hi, anglers!
Many of you probably have been wondering what’s coming next in Fishing Planet. We are happy to tell you what we have been working on since the release of Maku-Maku Lake in Peru. Right now we are finalizing a new waterway - Marron River, which in Spanish means “The Brown River”. It comes next in our series of South American Amazon waterways that we are very proud to introduce to our players.

The river originates in the northern part of Bolivia, specifically in Beni Department, and is a tributary to the Beni River. Together with the Mamoré River they make up the Madeira, Amazon’s largest tributary.

September is the warmest month in this region. That’s why we’ve planned for you to visit these wonderful locations in late September. The heat starts to recede, and on some days it might even drizzle. It’s simply magnificent to fish or just walk along the picturesque banks of the Marron River during this time!

The total length of the river with all its tributaries is over five kilometers (just over three miles), which makes it the longest one in the Fishing Planet gaming world. That’s why owning a boat is virtually indispensable for a successful fishing trip. However, if you haven’t purchased a vessel yet, don’t be put out by this.

Go to the Viejo Vado Boat Station, where you can rent out affordable motor boats as well as an exclusive wooden kayak, skillfully crafted by local woodworkers.

For those preferring to fish from the bank we have prepared six basic locations with perfect fishing conditions, and the Viejo Vado Boat Station is one of them.

The river’s mainstream has plenty of pits up to 10 m (33 ft) deep and is rather fast-flowing, so we recommend our anglers to use heavy lures and sinkers as part of their tackle.

Large catfish and bottom predators will be waiting for you in the muddy waters of the Brown River. It is over 200 m (650 ft) wide at its mainstream.

Meanwhile, the river’s many tributaries are not as fast or deep, so that’s where you can fully enjoy the gorgeous nature and take a short rest.

Two small lakes, Selva and Anku, are also worth mentioning: they sit hidden among the river’s meandering tributaries and constitute two basic locations of the reservoir. These lakes are teeming with various fish species, including the Fishing Planet’s largest piranha – Tambaqui. This is a giant of a fish, with its weight sometimes exceeding over 40 kg (88 lb). Naturally, it’s not an easy task to catch a Unique Tambaqui and will require many hours, so be sure to have plenty of powerful tackle at hand if you come across this desirable trophy.

You can find all your necessary tackle for fruitful fishing experience at the local store – Marron Rio Mercado.

Our next basic location is situated near a lone hut on the southern bank of the river. Local residents have named this place Sacha Kallpa, which stands for “Mighty Tree”. Here, beside the hut, it seems the time has stopped thousands of years ago. The villagers know they can come across Peacock Bass in the southern areas of the Marron River, so they fish here sometimes.

Leaving the Viejo Vado Boat Station and moving down the river you will find the local village of Los Cardos, which is similarly a basic location. Most dwellings are raised on stilts against the river flooding, and some of their thatched roofs peek out of the evergreen vegetation. The soil is sandy clay. The slope is rather steep occasionally, but in most areas you can freely reach the water to set up a fishing spot.
 

Our final basic location of this waterway is situated on one of the river’s isles, Chiri. This islet’s name means “cold” in the local language, which can be explained by frequent mists or cool air streams sweeping its shores. A small unkempt shelter adds to the feeling of abandonment, because nobody seems to live here today apart from rare visiting anglers from the village. The shore is clay, rocky and low-sloped, which makes for a most pleasant fishing experience.

Speaking about the variety of fish, you will be able to catch 20 whole species at this location, some of which you previously fished for at Maku-Maku Lake. But you will still be treated to five very new species, including the said Tambaqui!

Marron River features one more very intriguing object – a stranded old ship. It is still in great condition, and most importantly, hasn’t been salvaged by locals for tools or building materials.

I would think 62 if it follows the normal pattern, but unless they give us new gear as well, I would like to see if not keep going up and it be more about chooses for levels 50-60 as such

Please re-evaluate your leveling system ! its getting out of control at this point !!!!!!!

Its not a great feeling for the newer players to get this game and find out once they hit 40 its going to come to a screeching halt , oh...and your going to have to fish the same 3 or 4 species of fish nonstop for the next couple months !

I sort of agree. I hit Level 40 at a reasonable pace. Since then things have moved rather slowly. Level 47 now, but for me to get to the required Level to visit, say, South America will take another few months, and only if I grind away on a daily basis.

How about adding more missions to all lakes with big XP boosts? Keeps things interesting by giving players more things to accomplish and gives more opportunity for levelling up. Once I've finished catching everything in all lakes, I can't see myself grinding away for months just to unlock a new venue. I can't even visit Blue Crab Island yet and I'm more or less done with Saint Croix, once I finally get a Unique Blue Cat there. Then there's only Kaniq or San Jaoquin left to do for me, if I remember correctly.

I agree if you have to go from 60 to 62 it could be 500000xp . I think 59 to 60 was 248000 roughly (memory not very good) i cant see myself grinding the same 3 places to get there . Higher level lakes exclusive fish (New fish recently added ) need to reward more xp otherwise its back to Cali , Blue Crab or WW to level up.

I finally fished at Maku Maku and understand the fishing system to the new ponds. Dont want to make a big spoiler about it, but I hope Not a lot of downside days to Marron River.

so were going to just ignore the out of date leveling system ? you realize that new players that join have little to no chance at even seeing much of this new content your creating ? wouldnt it be wiser to make leveling easier so people stay around and spend more money on the end game ?

Again tho....they are making content that very few of their playerbase will actually ever spend any time on or even have much access too at all.

Wouldnt it make more sense to let players experience the majority of the game ? 

Ill say it again , and theres really no argument against it....If someone gets a new account tomorrow there is little to no chance they will EVER see all of the new species and places due to the unreasonable leveling system.

Believe me im on your side i'm not looking forward to the terrible grind at all ( Debated just deleting the game) but thats how these so called free to play games generate money . If they made it to easy to rank up nobody would buy premium or DLCs that are basicly pay to advance . To me the grind wouldnt be bad if i didnt really only have 2 or 3 types of fish to maximize my time.

will this be coming to the fisherman fishing planet,  the paid version of the game? just wondering because i just recently got it and I am just curious as to if any update will be coming to that also.  I was on the free to play version and thought the paid version had better benefits.   so i started over on it.     This new area looks great though,  really hope to see it in the paid version

I play on ps4 also, and play daily.   its one of the few games i actualy do enjoy playing and wont be stopping anytime soon.

the marron river is the worst lake i have ever fished on in any fishing game. graphics are cartoonish at best and lag is horrible there.lots of fish and xp is huge but this was hard work to get to level 93 only to find the map so dull.i hope i'm not the only one who has these problems there I have a gaming computer and blazing fast internet

Please stop using this free to play argument. It starts to piss me off. When I purchase the Premium the grinding does not stop. Its not like you have better experience then. It helps a little. But really you still have to farm and this is ridiculous that you have 20+ lakes and thousands of tackles and in the end everyone are farming in Weeping Willow, California or Michigan. You pay 100 euros a year for a premium and you still have to grind, pay baitcoins to fast forward etc. I bet you that the Bolivia DLC that comes out will cost you more than 30 euros on PS4. Its a full price for an indie game. And in Fishing Planet you even don't get an unlimited license for the lake. You get 30 days access to the lake. Equipment you get is not the best one either. When you level up you probably replace it etc. I think we should actually not buy anything from them for a month that they would start listening to us. I know that they are not struggling financially so its pure greed and nothing else.

I like the game and I really think you should spend money on it just to support the developers. But the prices they have right now will backfire sooner or later.

How do you get to the Marron River?  I still don't see it on my Fishing Planet.  If there's an update, how do I update my Fishing Planet to get to it?
