I was fishing for Pike at Saint Croix with 3 Rods yesterday. Anyone who's fished there will know that the Pike do NOT screw around and nibble. They strike the bait and run like crazy. After landing about 15 fish in like 20 minutes or so, I was interested to see how far I'd progressed with this challenge, only to see that I'm on 2. What's going on here? Are you not allowed to fish with more than one rod? If so, why don't they say so? I did NOT reel in any rod, not even a little after casting. I was clipped at 20 meters and wherever the bait fell, I left it there. I didn't get any weeds or nothing. I cast, put the rod on the stand, wait for the strike and then pulled out the fish, repeat. This challenge seems buggy to me.

Ok so it is pure luck then. Nothing to do with being good or an "Angling Machine". Won't waste my time trying to complete it any longer then, if I don't have any influence over the outcome and it's just based on luck.

Luck can play a big part in getting this one, I also thought it would be easy, small minnow or something similar, chuck it in front of a Bass or a Pike and been done with it. Nope, didn't happen. I think the best idea is to only fish when the fish are most active (peak to halfway down on the activity chart). I finally completed it at Rocky with the smallest hooks (#10 at the time) and small insect baits (Crickets I think). Some others have said previously that event fish (St. Patricks, 4th of July, Halloween and Christmas) are good targets for completing this challenge.

Save it for a rainy day.

I've had plenty of pike that nibble and leave, and that's all it takes to reset the counter. Same with lure fishing, one missed strike or a snag that pulls in weeds or trash will do the same thing.

I think you're best chance at completing this is during a holiday event where bait fishing is required for the event fish. I had a friend a couple of years ago do it while float fishing with shiners for furry trout and antlered salmon while I was lighting off fireworks for him during the Christmas event. He didn't even know he was doing it until the notification popped up that it was completed.

I just got this one done earlier this year myself while grinding rowdy bass and leprechaun fish for baitcoins during the St. Patrick's day event. I was also float fishing and unaware it was happening but I did use a rod stand so I know that's not an issue. I also did it across two venues, Florida and Michigan, so leaving the lake doesn't reset the counter either.

Event fish seem to take the bait more consistently without leaving, especially when they require a specific event bait. Off the top of my head other possibilities could be the gar at Halloween (if you have enough bait), or maybe the crystal burbot if you haven't completed that challenge already (Christmas), and maybe even the ghost pike too, I never tried bait fishing for those before. Good Luck!

The best time and place to do it is the Everglades during the Butterfly Peacock comp with shrimp or shiner.  I would be surprised if anybody can fail that challenge there.

I'll try it for a bit next time I'm at the Everglades. I know they also bite quickly and viciously there on Shrimp and a float setup. But the Pike also don't nibble at Saint Croix, so it is quite annoying. If others manage to do it though, I guess I have to try.

Like Carpman said, I'll keep it for a rainy day, when I don't have much else to do.

I had trouble with this for a long time, then I travelled to California for the first time and farmed Sturgeon from my Kayak. Got both the I and II challenges done straight away. I used the second Catboxer set up with #4/0 hooks and spawn sac. Hope this may help someone else to complete the challenges.
