Using MY Kayak

Hi all, been playing for about a year (on X-Box) and for the most part I love the game. Recently I purchased a kayak. I outfitted it in the appropriate spot and didn't give it a second thought. Well, until the next time I went fishing. I was just going to a lake that you can't use a boat on (yes I am aware that you can only use a boat on specific lakes) and when I tried to head to the lake a warning popped up regarding taking my kayak to a lake that doesn't support them, or some such. So, first question, why do we need to be warned about this?

Next question; when I did finally go to a lake where I could use my kayak, I quickly discovered I couldn't figure out how to launch it. Since then I have searched videos on YouTube, joined this forum and searched pages of threads, all to no avail. Now I don't consider myself a genius, but I'm no slouch, either (although sometimes the obvious does tend to escape me). So, am I missing something obvious here? Can someone please talk me through the whole process so I might actually enjoy my new kayak? I'd sure appreciate it!

First part i believe that its a warning that even if you cant use kayak you still will get repairs on it if you take it. Second if you have kayak equiped then you have to go to peg with boat symbol and it should already be in water . Hope that helps some

Thanks!! Yea, I guess I was over-complicating the process. I was looking all over my pages, thinking I had to do something there. Next time I decide to drop a wad of cash and go to one of the lakes where I can use it, I'll definitely give that a shot!

In addition to the second part.

On the Xbox you use the "Y" key to get in and out, but this only works when you are close to the boat and facing.

Whether you are close enough is also indicated to you in the upper center of the screen by the prompt "Click" Y "to push off".

With the button "LB" you can throw an anchor or haul in.

you may already be aware of this - the kayak is great for doing the sleigh missions if you do not anchor when you fish and also it allows you to fish with relatively light gear and still catch big fish eg muskies on St Croix or some of the monster missions and get good XP.

Thanks BabyBoomer. Yep, one of the main reasons I want to use the kayak is to get any coinage I can from associated challenges. Haven't gone after any muskie yet though, so I'll be sure and keep your advice in mind when I do!
