Marshall_Maz Posted September 25, 2017 Report Posted September 25, 2017 Hi guys , can you catch more than one unique in the same session and time , or does there only spawn one at a time. For example if a unique's time is 19:00 - 21:00 , and you catch one let's say 19:45 , can you catch another one before 21:00 ? Or will there be just 1 at a time ? Quote
Moderators PH_TalonAquila Posted September 25, 2017 Moderators Report Posted September 25, 2017 I can only tell you, from my own experience, that it seems to vary. I've caught multiples of the same species unique in a couple of locations, caught more than one of the same species in various spots in the same location, and only one of a particular unique in a few locations. And a couple locations have multiple uniques with various times for catching them, making it a grand day when you can catch 2 or more uniques of different species Tight lines... 1 Quote
Dano_UK Posted September 27, 2017 Report Posted September 27, 2017 Unique's spawn once per hour and very rarely twice per hour...but that was last year, dunno about now lol. If the uni' times are say...7pm - 9pm, then you have 2 chances to catch one. I recently caught 3 uni' steelheads at Cali' in a 3 hour window.....so I know it works! 1 Quote
Moderators PH_TalonAquila Posted September 27, 2017 Moderators Report Posted September 27, 2017 my wife and I have both caught as many as 5 unique chinook at kaniq in one day... generally we take 2 or 3 per day. 1 Quote
Marshall_Maz Posted September 28, 2017 Author Report Posted September 28, 2017 Copy that all thanx guys. Seems some of the unique's spots have been changed. Last night I got a little bored and decided to try the Unique Largemouth Bass at Florida. Tried everything that every video says , at the right time , at the right place. Hardly caught a thing , not even trophies. So with only 10 minutes of peak time left I decided to abandon it and move to my usual spot to at least get a few trophies before day is over , bam first cast got the unique. Not where all info says it is. Looking forward to next day now to see if I can get maybe two of them. But if the placing info was wrong on it the time frame might be as well and it won't have a 3 hour chance like info says. But will try for 2 on next day anyway Never had 2 uniques in one day. Quote
Moderators PH_TalonAquila Posted September 28, 2017 Moderators Report Posted September 28, 2017 caught my first ever unique largemouth in the 'glades just after 9 pm (2100 hrs.) on the 3 ft. (1 meter) glow crank bait. Lily pads area, straight out (where during daylight hours it's butterfly peacock bass and occasionally a gar...) Quote

I just finished a session there , and I was amazed at how much trophy largemouth I was hammering at that spot. And I was thinking too myself " All this largemouth here now and in the day nothing at this spot ". I also noticed that my daytime largemouth spot yields almost nothing at night. Hot spots definitely different at night at Florida. 1 Quote
Moderators PH_TalonAquila Posted September 28, 2017 Moderators Report Posted September 28, 2017 seems to me that the hotspots are different in all the locations I've fished at night, so I'm lookin' forward to those I haven't been to yet. Quote
TC915 Posted October 3, 2017 Report Posted October 3, 2017 Wasn't sure where to ask this, if it needs to be moved or deleted that's fine. What exactly do the Common, Trophy & Unique signify? At first I thought size ranges but confused now lol. Example: I caught a 6.5lb Unique Butterfly Peacock, but heard someone caught a 7lb+ Trophy one. So it can't be size, right? Are Common & Trophy the size ranges, while Uniques are just a different color/fin pattern (or something)? Quote

Marshall_Maz Posted October 10, 2017 Author Report Posted October 10, 2017 Ok thanx , will definitely try again on my next trip there. Love that lake and if I can extend my fishing there into the night as well then it will be a big bonus for me. Quote
Rob_cheese Posted April 21, 2019 Report Posted April 21, 2019 Redear Sunfish of North Carolina regularly give up their unique specimens amongst a good haul of trophies. The other day I surprised myself by catching four on the same day. My experience would suggest one or two seems to be the usual number for this particular species on the Neherrin. Quote
