Due to its popularity as sport fish, it has been introduced all over North America. The species resembles the bluegill except for larger size and a dark olive-green body with yellow shades on the lower sides, and whitish on the belly. Adult fish are usually between 20 and 24 cm (7.9 and 9.4 in) in length and about 0.45 kg (0.99 lb) in weight. Max length is 43.2 cm (17.0 in), and max weight is 2.3 kg (5 lb).
