White Catfish (Ameiurus catus) are the smallest of the large North American catfish species. These freshwater fish belong to the Bullhead Catfish family and are originally native to the coastal river systems of the eastern United States. Now found throughout the entire U.S., this species prefers sluggish, mud-bottomed pools in rivers, streams, and lakes. White Catfish can be distinguished by its white chin barbells, lack of scales and a noticeably broad head. Adult White Catfish range in weight between 0.4 - 1 kg. These bottom feeders eat primarily other fish and aquatic insects.
